Keldeo is already decided as the next suspect. Now that Landorus is banned, I hope that Keldeo isn't too, as many new counters/checks have been opened up in viability -- things like Roserade, Amoonguss, defensive Gyarados, and Jellicent. However so many people have wanted it gone so badly that I expect it will be the next to leave OU.

Thats not how it works.
When the next gen comes out everything is back in OU, aside from the things that are automatically banned. (shit that is obviously going to be broken, like arceus, most box legendaries and etc)

Blaziken and friends, and hell even probably darkrai, deoxys, shaymin and a bunch of other legendaries will be in OU again.

there is a really good tier called gen-next on showdown. it fixes most things like Stealth Rocks, weather, etc. you could check that out once and maybe you will think in another way about smogon, since it is made by smogon people.

Smogon fixes the meta, it's not some "evil" thing that wants to ban ERRYTHING
also every attempt at creating another meta from /vp/ has horribly failed, example: the karenfag server
It's not like you'll be able to know what's broken or not RIGHT at the beginning, you need testing for that, and it's what smogon does for every tier at the beginning, everything is unbanned except arceus and box legendaries.

What do you think would happen if they did in fact ban U-turn? They would probably start whining about Reuniclus again, and then some other thing, so it would just lead to more bans.

U-turn would be the dumbest ban in the history of Pokemon, pretty much ruining a lot of Pokemon completely - such as Scizor, Landorus-T, Staraptor, and others.

You know, this makes me wonder if they keep the metagames for previous generations alive. I know they have entries on their site for using pokemon in the past metas. I've certainly never heard of anyone playing a past meta too much. I'm mostly asking this since I find it silly to continue making adjustments to a meta that will soon be defunct. I suppose you can still have fun for 3 months, but it will very soon become purposeless since you'll only experience these conditions for a short time.

The think about SG Jirachi is that even if it in and of itself is broken, it stops A LOT of OTHER broken things from being used because it is the theoretical counter to a lot of those otherwise-broken sets. When people want to make one of those sets, they look and say, "Oh, well there might be a Jirachi, in which case I'll be fucked, so I'll not use this stupid set." Without Jirachi, you're going to see A LOT more bullshit in the metagame.

Well, people are still playing previous metas, as gen 4 OU ladder is starting to gain popularity on Pokémon Showdown!, and gen 1 OU ladder too. I've heard they were going to start a final suspect in DPP for Latias, since they plan to unban it.

just because some new mons and some new moves will be added, doesn't mean stuff will get unbanned. they've banned evasion and OHKO moves, and they'll probably never get unbanned, and now they're "talking" about the damage+switch moves, but because that one might get unbanned at some point due to changes in the metagame, it'll probably won't get banned in the first place

Someone in that thread had a pretty good idea; make it so you have to select what you want to switch to when you select u-turn, not when it hits. That way it gives the opponent much more breathing room, as it can predict with confidence where you're going.

I feel like Smogon is fighting a losing battle trying to tier things now. In 4th gen they did a pretty decent job IMO but in 5th gen there's just too many things to really balance an OU tier. So many item/move/nature combinations to exploit - you ban one, something new steps forward.

Fuck the 5th gen metagame anyway.

I don't competitive so I don't really care either way, but why doesn't smogon ban stealth rock? They seem to want to avoid things that are overcentralizing, and I think a move that basically invalidated a few otherwise decent types and requires the use of an otherwise shit move to counter is overcentralizing. Is there some kind of logic to this I'm not getting?

Stealth Rock's damage is why it's a target for testing before the new generation begins. Its damage helps it be popular, but the true popularity comes from it being the easiest hazard to set up, discourages switching, and since it effects targets regardless of their typing it breaks Focus Sashes. If Stealth Rock did the same damage as one layer of Spikes, it would still be popular due to breaking the Focus Sash of a Flying type.

The reason it's centralizing is not because of it doing bonkers damage to certain types however. The damage that is considered out of control is that every strategy boils down to "2HKO -AFTER STEALTH ROCK-".
For being a one turn set up with extremely high distribution, it's broken.
