At the very least, it could have been TEMPORARILY closed, and you could have taken a victory walk with the Champion down Route 10 after you beat her in the final battle. Or maybe with Alder. I just would have liked to have a walking conversation with some wise character after beating the game to have a nice little reflection and a greater sense of accomplishment.
Obviously they would have had to do a remix of the music to change the tone from "Shit's about to go down" to "Shit already went down, and you came out the victor," but I think they could have pulled it off.
