>>13063563>Are you loyal to your starter Pokemon type? No, it depends on the starter, up to gen III I would always chose grass on my first playthough though, now I will chose anything.
>And why are Grass-type starters so unpopular? They're not unpopular, they are just usually looked upon as a choice for the novice player because, most of the time (not always, see gen II) grass types have an advantage against the first few gyms.
However, by the middle and later parts of the games they tend to encounter lots of pokemon with serious type advantages over them, something fire pokemon usually encounter near the start of their journey and water pokemon in the middle.
Because of the novice use when a novice using a grass starter hits the point when a little difficulty sets in they become disheartened with their choice rather than accepting it, often because they have no strength and depth in their team and using only their grass pokemon has left them with an overpowered team leader backed up by level 3 rodents and birds they never bothered to use. They'll often go onto the internet and call their pokemon 'shit' to mask their own lack of knowlage and skill, before requesting links to roms or emulators because the real game proved to be too intense for them.
