Hello /vp/,

Havent Played Pokemon since HG/SS.
Picked up B/W because i saw they are going to release X/Y
What starter should i pick? i dont know any of the pokemon in this generation. Anything i should catch or should not miss?

Pick the water starter, it's the most reliable.
Get a scraggy if you can, it is also very reliable.

this gen has the worst starters of all gens IMO. I suggest you either box your starter or pick whatever appeals to you the most. If you don't know any of the pokemon, that's perfect, go in blind and train whatever catches your interest. That's what made hoenn the most enjoyable game for me.

Get Tynamo of Ferroseed or both in chargestone cave OP. Get Durant in Victory road. Minccino is also a nice pokemon.

Pick Oshawott for based Samurott. Disregard butthurt Wottergate fags. Unova doesn't have many reliable water types anyway

As for the other 5 members, go blind, and catch whatever strikes your fancy. y only personal recomendation is that you catch a Sigilyph when you reach the Desert. It kicks ass

I used Carracosta in-game and it's really not that great. Sturdy is decent, but it's super slow and is weak to everything. It only starts pulling weight after Shell Smash

Jellicent is great defensively, but not so hot offensively, but it's indeed a solid choice, up there with Samurott

Carracosta has that one ability where it doesn't really have that many weaknesses and it's a great tank. Lot of pros use it. I'm not a huge fan though, it's very slow.

Jellicent can burn other pokemon and weaken their attack so I liked it a lot. And it's good against pokemon like Scraggy who you will meet a lot.

Samurott is boss though.

I say, if you choose Oshawott, dump the monkey you get before the first gym for a Darumaka as soon as you can. Once it evolves into Darmanitan, it just begins destroying everything.

Pick the one that you like the best, but they are all fairly lacklustre compared to some other Pokemon you can find in the game. Although I find that Emboar and Serperior are completely outclassed by Darmanitan and Lilligant respectively, whereas there aren't many amazing water types in the game. So if you have White, I'd recommend Oshawott. If you have Black, I'd recommend Oshawott or Snivy.

You got an unpatched ROM. No exp gain part of the DRM for black and white.

If he has Black he can trade for a Petlil with 20/20/20/31/20/20 IVs in Nacrene City. Oshawott is the best choice, Emboar is still good for a bulky Fire/Fighting.

If you download patched one make sure to rename it just like the orginal one and replace the original one. Copy battery folder or whatever just in case.
