If Blastoise was a little bulkier Water/Steel would be great, it's a fantastic defensive typing.

I really hate the idea of a starter with a Dragon dual-type. To me the whole point of Dragons is that they're rare and generally hard to raise. They've gotten increasingly easy to find each successive generation and it pisses me off.

Well, take into account that there hasn't been a game where you can start with Charmander in almost a decade, and it's possible there never will be again. Could you consider the more powerful dual-typings an homage to the original games?

Meganium is now grass/fairy
Swampert now has dragon dance through breeding with wiscash
torterra gets shell smash

All of these are actually somewhat possible and are all better than those. My point is though, that its stupid as fuck to just make up shit for the pokemon you like so they can be good.

As for charizard, I always wondered why he wasn't retyped to /dragon in the remakes.

It doesn't really have the stats to be broken from just those things. It already has access to Dragon Dance and is already immune to Ground. Would it be significantly better with the Dragon typing? More than likely. But it's not like it wouldn't be fitting, nor would it be without its counters.

Maybe if it were actually a Dragon type so it could get STAB from Dragon Pulse. Otherwise its Special movepool is extremely lackluster.

If you want immunity for dragon then be happy he is /flying, if he becomes /dragon he loses this advantage.
You can't have a cake and eat it too.

I'd like it if starters weren't forced to have Overgrow/Blaze/Torrent as their abilities so Charizard could have Levitate as its default ability. Without levitate I guess it would still be decent though.
