It was around june i think. World was starting to warm up when the boss sent me and a few good hands over to Johto to rustle up some fresh pokemon and some fresh game corners customers. Mahogany base was to be our home for the next 3 months.

Now i don't have to tell you how small Mahogany is, but a well tossed rock'll take you from one side a town to the next, noone there cept us and the pokemon center, we even had the local gym leader in our back pocket.

I rememba the sun on my face as we came outta the cave from Blackthorn, just feeling the warmth, wash ova me like a good showa. Needed it from the freaking ice cave.

It was the signs, i think. Too nondesript, too casual like. I checked out the shop, and as soon as the lady saw the regulars, she flipped a switch under the counter. Boom. Secret hideout. And i was home. A million swaths a black and red running this way and that, pushing stolen goods to transport hubs, a few scientist working out the bugs on pokesnatchers, all to help.

I hit the rec room to grab a bite, and for the first time in a week, felt a seat under my body i could call my own.

Roll called early that night, good bread and warm chili were all around, man i can still taste that Tomato Berry broth. Spicy enough to melt an inch or two off a Glailie.

Candy wasn't kidding bout them bigger beds, she hooked me up with a single. Not common, especially in Rocket barracks.

I lay there for a long time that night, Crobat hanging on the ceiling girders, Raticate nibbling the corner of the furniture. I just stared at the ceiling thinking about where i was going and what it all meant. I thought about where we'd been. How we met. Just me and my pokemon at first, but then it was her, how she would laugh when Crobat, then a Golbat, would bob and weave under her arms as she walked. how he could do a perfect impression of her yelling when she wasn't looking i still don't know.

And i laughed, a bit to myself and bit to the darkness. just thinking about the long off days swimming off the cloyster beach, tanning in the construction area or even remebering how close we would get to being caught on a B and E or a container heist. She'd always tie up her bandana right before the job, and wouldn't take it down till we were free and clear. By then her hair'd be matted from the heat, flattened. She always said she liked it that way, that it was the only way she could straighten it.

I always told her that she looked fine the way she was. She'd huff and go back to her planner. It was always one thing or another for her.

I don't know why that's surprising. Ask around on /tg/ and they'll tell you about tabletop campaigns that have lasted much, much longer. My longest running tabletop group lasted about 10 years or so.

As she was typing out the code, i'd begun wiring the wall of the building and the support columns with an Electrode based epoxy. She set to work unlocking each box, pouring the contents into a small black bag.

The back door was thin enough to take a kick from bruiser and we rolled out panting onto the asphalt.

My eyes flicked to my bag, whatever epoxy was left. half a foot of det cord, a piece of epoxy no bigger than a thumb and a few blasting caps. Needless to say, it was time to get creative.

Her ears rang from the force of the explosion. I stood,opening the door as the van slowed to a crawl. The tunnel was sketchy this time of night, but when you're a Rocket, you are the sketchy.

The trip was a short one thankfully, and I came back to find the van still mostly intacted, a slide of the door revealed a hunk of Celadonian stock passed out on the floor and a platinum haired heterochromatic, waiting for me. Not a bad sight.

"So, sushi? I did my homework. Excellent place round the block, open all owas. Good overwatch of the gamecorner too, but i think were a bit beyond that."

One more mischevous smile and i plopped into the command chair next to her.

The station was mostly silent but for the small flashes of alarms from the damaged main system. The trip to the hangers, and the ship itself, was mostly uneventful with the exception of noticing that the giant rocket ship that had been in the hanger when they entered was now gone completely.

Getting to the core would require more work though, which meant going through the bottom part of the station instead of the upper part, a place that, as of yet, had yet to be explored...

Of course the group in the Hanger couldn't seem to spot the source of the noise as well, that is until they witnessed a flash of something dart by from above... the figure darting between cover and pillars rapidly as it closed in... not looking anything like the swordsman, not that they knew what the swordsman looked like. The figure drew nearer and nearer and nearer as they watched, metal clanging, beams creaking, debris falling, and, in some cases, flying at them as whatever it was found something small enough to throw, it was coming on fast that's for sure.
