I don't really have one, but if I had to say one, Gen 5.

Because it has the most up-to-date mechanics and has the most polished games yet, which makes them the most enjoyable to play overall.

The region itself is pretty bland compared to past generations and feels kind of disjointed, at least in BW1. BW2 helped that a ton. I also didn't the increased focus on the story in both, because the story quality didn't really improve at all and just felt kind of forced. I felt that Platinum did its story elements better.

Gen 1

Vileplume.

It felt the most down to earth, and it started it all. Otherwise I can't think of much the later games haven't all improved greatly in one way or another.

I like Ferrothorn's desing a lot. When I first caught a Ferroseed I thought it was gonna be a shit mon, then I looked at bulbapedia and nearly shat myself.
And I like a lot of the desings, but I hate a bunch of them as well. Mainly the legendaries. The thing I hate the most, however, was BW2. By far the worst game of the whole series. The post game was decent but everything before that felt like getting kicked in the nuts by a girl to me.

Hoenn was a comfy region with some interesting routes, having two pseudo-legendaries was pretty cool, Gen 3's battle speed is very fast.

The advancement of game mechanics have come a long way since the early days, not to mention more attempts at fleshing out gym leader daily lives and showing what they do on the side. Battling is a lot quicker and streamline.

Hard decision, considering that there are many Pokemon I like. I'll just pick and say the Oshawott line.

It introduced us to the concept of Pokemon, laid the foundation for everything else to come. The styles and aspects of this gen have only been built upon and advanced as the games have gone by. We wouldn't be here without Gen I, and for all of its bugginess, it was still fun to experience and play. It defined Pokemon as it was and always will be, and even though things may change, it is still pretty much the same.

I'll admit, it's nostalgia in large part, but I really liked the world it offered. The connectedness to G1 made it a pretty satisfying sequel, I think, that managed to improve upon most of G1's egregious flaws.

Not many new Pokemon or families, not much going on in terms of high end or competitive play, Kanto was kind of half-done. There are a lot of flaws, but so many of them can be chalked up to finite space in the cartridges, which G2 had really pushed to the limit at the time. (for instance, it's pretty impressive they were able to find room for Kanto at all)

I enjoyed the soundtrack, and the overhaul of the stat system and personality values was a very important contribution to the franchise's postgame/competitive play.

I got me back into playing the games again after I kinda skipped Gen III. I thought it had some very good designs and probably the best villain with Cyrus.

Ruby was my first. Great music, secret bases, and diving. All of the non-surfing routes were interesting (especially the one going to Fortree city)

A good thread for gen appreciation

1.) Gen IV
2.) Fun story, Lots of new pokebros, add-on evolutions made old pokemon useful. Great flow all around, I feel they tried to make everyone happy sucessfully.
3.) All steel types aside, Mammoswine. And besides him and them, Drapion.
4.) Good question. A couple rather forgettable pokemon in this gen too, namely baby pokemon. Battle Tower was kind of pointless after I had gotten my EV-training items.
5.) Gen V.
6.) Scrafty
7.) a decent handful of awesome pokemon. Hidden abilities and internet capabilities aren't too shabby.

Emerald's Battle Frontier is the most fun I've ever had in-game in Pokémon and I really enjoyed a lot of the locations in Hoenn. FR/LG were also some fantastic, much needed updates to the original games. I also think gen 3 had the best competitive metagame and hate the massive power creep in gen 4 onward.

However, I did enjoy Black and White far more than I thought I would. I was very skeptical towards them when I started playing and I actually left the game untouched for months after getting to Castelia City, but when I finally decided to finish it, BW actually ended up being some of my favorite Pokémon games although I still don't like most of the designs from that gen. I completely agree. The level progression was flawless. I felt totally accepting of fighting level 40 Sneasels with my level 70 pokemon to prepare for trainer red.

I honestly can't choose which Bug and Ghost type I want to use more in Gen V, especially since they aren't frail as fuck and weak as shit. But in Gen V was the first time I broke the "Only one of a Type" rule and went with Galvantula and Scolipede.
