Does anyone else think that pokemon would benefit from either a revamp of older pokemon or a complete reboot?

It seems like each generation forces more formerly useful pokes into obscurity. Pokemon that could play great defensive roles in Gen 1 are now unable to cope with the mostly offensive metagame. Previous powerhouses are no longer able to compete with pokemon that outshine them in just about every way.

I would love this to happen. The 'power creep' of newer generations (particularly gen 5) has led to old pokemon becoming useless in battles.

An overhaul of the entire stats and battling system would be great so that 'mashing the A button' doesn't win every battle.

No. It doesn't.

Every old Pokémon gets an updated moveset each Generation to make them just as viable as anyone else. Newer ones just tend to have newer abilities or are more accessible in later games so players can try to get accustomed to them.

If you're going to cry about them being forgotten or drafted in artwork, need I remind you like every single Pokémon parody writted by 20-30 somethings for the internet makes jokes based on the first season of the anime or the original 151. You're not oppressed, stop pretending that you are.

An updated moveset isn't the only thing that matters. Things like Machamp will have a hard time competing due to them being created when having 90/80/80 defense meant you could take a hit.

I'm not at all whining about them not being represented in media or fan-art, you fucking idiot. I'm saying it gets harder for the relics to compete because of outdated BSTs and abilities.

Also, it seems that older rock, fire, ice, ground, and normal types have had no luck adapting to the changing game.

Actually, there are a few more. The post above you has some listed, but Cloyster and Dugtrio are now OU due to fulfilling a gimmick that hasn't been taken yet.

Still, that vast majority of Gen 1 pokes haven not kept up with the game. Remember when Jynx used to be a good pokemon? Remember when Snorlax was the unbreakable wall?

Gen V is when they just threw the book out. 120+ offenses on everything and BSTs are just higher in general.

Machamp 2.0 is what rustled me however.

However, 19 of the top 50 used pokemon in OU are Gen I/II: scizor dnite ttar starmie gengar alakazam ninetails skar celebi espeon tentacruel gyarados jolteon venusaur dugtrio vaporeon magnezone donphan blissey.

All of those pokemon have >3.7% usage.

Those pokemon were all given an ability that would be game breaking given to an already viable pokemon. I suppose it's a good way to revive pokemon that wouldn't otherwise be viable, but it seems they're overly dependent on fulfilling specif niches.

Pretty much. Metagross and Salamence are also facing stiff competition now too. Blaziken is oddly the only thing from Gen 3 to actually get better in Gen 5.

Yeah, Blaziken got one of the best abilities and got banned for it.

But yeah, a lot of the GenI/II pokes listed have new attacks/abilities that have helped them keep up.

Look at something like Snorlax, who hasn't gotten anything good. He needs something like "Endless Fat: Reduces the damage from Fighting/Normal attacks by half." Bulk Up could help too.
