Made it through Clair but lost two mons on the way, Froslass and Xatu, pulled Mr Mime out of the box and trained him up, took down the Kimono Girls and wiped out Ho-oh, made it through Victory Road but lost Sandslash to my Rival's Gengar, fucking Destiny Bond.

Off to go grind up Togepi and Riolu for use in the team, any suggested moves for them?

Well then don't ask people to teach you how to photoshop things if you don't have the most basic of knowledge of the program. This is something you could literally figure out by playing around with the buttons and settings

Step two: Download GIMP/Pirate photoshop (I think CS2 is free to download too actually so there's no excuses there)
Step three: Enjoy fancy editing features

Failing that, learn how colours work in relation to each other and go for something minimalist.

Went to RT.116 and ran in the grass hoping for a Nincada and found a Skitty instead. Figured that's cool too, I never used one of those before...then KO'd it on accident. Looks like no RT.116 Pokemon for me.

I've been doing a lot of modified challenge runs and by far the most fun rules are those as follows:
Catch any individual one Pokemon from the first three encountered in a route.
If a Pokemon has not been part of your party for the past two gym battles, you must release it.
No grinding beyond five levels higher than the highest leveled wild Pokemon encountered.
Otherwise base Nuzlocke rules apply.

It's given me by far the most enjoyment and challenge so far. It gives you the opportunity to fuck up and get a critical without being shorted a Pokemon as well as the chance to take a risk for a better one once or twice if you get boned. The leveling constraint is more of a personal thing because I always tend to grind beyond all chance of failure if I don't make it a rule for myself. The gym thing I randomly threw in on a past run and it turned out to do wonders for how seriously I took the whole "team" thing.

How about you all? What modifiers have you enjoyed the most?

that... actually sounds like it could be cool
even with regular deaths and all, i tend to get bogged down with pokemon that i end up never using
and when i do, it hasn't been since i caught them at the beginning of the game and i have to grind them up to par
that limitation sounds like it could fix that problem

I have been humbled. This is my first ever Nuzlocke, and on Blaze Black 2 Challenge Mode. Other than losing half my team to Roxie, I haven't suffered any set-backs - until now. Clay's Excadrill is the vanguard of my destruction. As Clay's last Poke, it swept my (all level 45-46) Serperior, Gyrados, Infernape, Skarmory, Nidoking, & Leavanny. I must build a new team upon the ashes of the old. I was beginning to believe this was easy. That all those Nuzlocke tales claiming fits of emotion over pixels were exaggerated.

...I was wrong.

I think hoenn is the hardest for a nuzlocke. After finishing a nuzlocke in leaf green, i wanted to try a nuzlocke of emerald. Bad idea. First off, there's freaking poochyena everywhere. At least in ruby and sapphire there was zigzagoon who was useful, but emerald replaces most of them with zigzagoon.

Anyway, i thought i was doing well until i fought brawly. His first poke took my poor wingull down to yellow with a bulk up, and while i was able to kill his meditite, his makuhita killed me. Wing attack needed 3 hits to kill, and after the first one, he bulked up. When i attacked again, he knocked me down to red while he healed. Afraid to lose wingull, i switched in my grovyle, but a crit killed her. Brawly then proceeded to sweep my team and i died.

Im not quitting just yet, so i snuckto slateport and caught a gulpin and tentacool. Now my team consists of a tentacool, gulpin, two underleveled poochyena, and a magikarp. I think i can manage rawly with some grinding, but any tips to beating wattson?

okay, i just beat faulkner (so far no deaths) using your rule set
i've liked being able to risk it so to speak when catching new pokemon entering routes
it's not as traditionally forceful as the whole "you must catch the first pokemon" rule, but it's not a massive change

Somehow managed to catch a Lv4 Lillipup on my first try, grinded him to Lv12 and easily reached Strialton City
Can probably handle the Gym with just him and the gifted Pansage

Leveling my Ralts right now is a pain though. Both Lillipups and Patrats learn Bite at an early level while Purrlions and Munnas resist Confusion, so I have to keep switching her out

Took out Falkner on Storm Silver with randomized encounter/starter. Even with Leon it got pretty dodgy as I didn't know what level his mons would be. Luckily Lucy had softboiled which meant I could safely take out his remaining 2 mons without having any casualties. Pretty pleased Aleiya has modest and technician as well.

Was pretty horrifying getting to the gym though, bumped into a giratina/kyogre on the way.

Any suggestions on what my team should consist of for the next gym? It's my first ever soul silver and I'm not entirely sure on how different it is to the original silver/gold

i have to admit it's actually pretty neat having this restriction
it forces you to prioritize not only what pokemon you have in your party for the current gym, but also figure which ones you'll need for future gyms
and you were totally right about giving it a tighter team cohesiveness, but that goes both ways, deaths are MUCH more devastating. i lost my mareep to bugsy and i was really beating myself up for it

Welp. Guess I am. See, there's another thing that makes Hoenn harder. In Kanto at least, Diglett's cave was right next to the electric gym. Here, your only choices really are Geodude or some other bulky pokemon, and when you're on a nuzlocke and most of your bros died, I think I really am screwed since I can't go north of Mauville to catch new pokemon since I need Wattson's badge and I don't want to grind for hours.

Should I just go reset and try again? And if so, should I pick the same starter or reroll for a new one? The starters themselves are actually very decent against Wattson

Ok made it through Roark pretty well, he had a bug mon I can't remember, Mawile and Elekid, Mawile took a Glare from Roxy and struck back with a Iron Head, took her out, but I then swept with Roshi and Venus.

Caught a few new mons, Neave the Pupitar from Route 207 and Meatloaf the Crobat in Oreburgh Gate, quite happy with the team right now, just off clearing Valley Windworks.

Was almost at Ecruteak City when I encountered a Stantler. I caught it, but at the cost of one of my first pokemon.

I should've switched Icarus with Craig, but I honestly didn't think a lvl 15 Stantler would kill it with Stomp, even if Leer was used on it.

I'm doing a Sapphire Nuzlocke, and I just defeated Norman. My advice: If you don't have Combusken (I did), make sure that your starter reaches it's final evolution before fighting him.

Hello Nuzgen, guy who was showing interesting in making a Romhack dedicated to /vp/'s nuzgen before the last thread died. I've decided on a few things since last time for the hack.
It'll be a hack of a Hoenn game, gym leaders will be rearranged/changed completely, some maps will be edited.

I wanted to ask though, what do you think I should do with the Pokemon though. Would you want them vanilla or would you prefer them
buffed if they were already lacking? Also, would you prefer if I toned down the number of Pokemon in the game to 151 catchable like it was done in Yet Another Fire Red hack? This would allow me to better balance the Pokemon and make them more unique one another. This would also allow me to use the extra slots to give some trainers (post game or otherwise) unique Pokemon to add sillier things to it. I'm fairly easy when it comes to this Nuzgen, I just want you guys to input your opinions so I can tone it to something everyone would enjoy playing to some degree.

that incredible jump in fun that i experienced when i first did a plain nuzlocke is happening again with this
at first i thought getting three chances at catching a pokemon made it significantly easier, but i SEVERELY underestimated how much it's kept in check by the other rules
the fact that i have to limit my total pokemon to a maximum of 12 at all times and that i can't overlevel to hell makes this a severe challenge, and the fact that my box isn't filled to the brim with useless pokemon that serve only as last resorts increases the camaraderie of a team immensely
i seriously recommend this to everyone

and yeah I survived with only 2 members last time too. Luckily Kanto wild pokes are in the high 40's. I'd warn you about the trainers before Mt. Moon (you have to start with brock). There's a blackbelt with sash/counter vigoroth as well as at least 2 explosion users. And Rival is tough shit. Furthest I've ever gotten is surge

the overleveling is cut out
the excess stash of pokemon you build up with no intention of ever using is removed
an unbelievably deep strategic aspect is added when deciding which pokemon to have on your team when battling the gym leader because that will determine who is on your future team
it also lets you have a little more freedom in catching more "useful" pokemon with the three chances to catch rule
at first i thought the three chances thing was just to give you more opportunities to catch overall "better" pokemon, but later on in the game when a critical member of your team bites it and you desperately need a certain type for an upcoming battle, one chance just won't cut it
you can really tell that these rules have been field tested and planned out a lot, because they complement each other incredibly well
