Not for at least 4 years
There's no reason to remake Hoenn until there's another break in backwards compatibility. While that might happen this Gen, official word from Nintendo/GF is that they're working on it which means if there isn't compatibility it wasn't planned, so there would be no reason for production of Hoenn remakes to have been started.

A sequel would be much better. Fix the issues with Hoenn. Add slightly more routes and less trumpet/Zubat/Tentacool/Wingull and actual postgame content and it'd be 10/10.
Hoenn has potential but they need to use it not just throw it away.

Plus, we have the Fairy-type to transform some old favourites, some new evolutions for Hoenn pokemon (Froslass, Dusknoir, Probopass, Gallade, etc.) and the Physical/Special split to make things better.

We could even stick in a few new pokemon if they add some new islands!

Sorry but I don't want to see the Ruby/Sapphire story again. It was in my opinion the worst story of the franchise. It didn't make sense and I never will understand why the leaders and grunts are basically comitting suicide. I want to see some new action and what happens after Brendan/May save the day.

would probably be alright in the earlier stages, when most moves are around 25-30 PP. granted getting to mossdeep and sootopolis would be a bit of a struggle (no pun intended) but there would be ways of working around that: maybe have healers in the tunnels like they introduced in BW, maybe make ethers and stuff more readily available. either would work

Because you use Max Repels like a fucking idiot. Repels aren't bad by any means but using Max Repels over Super Repels is idiotic.

Maxie and Archie on the other hand were just blindly expanding the land and sea without thinking of the consequences. They weren't REALLY evil and that makes it melodramatic. Archie knew the consequences of his actions and still went through with it

but you never end up needing that much more stuff. grinding your pokemon in areas near pokemon centres negates the need for extra potions, and balls aren't that expensive. plus it's an extra fifty steps without having to go into my bag and use another one, which doesn't seem like a massive bonus but it gets very tedious over time

Well I hope so. A number of people argue why because "all Hoenn Pokemon can be caught in Gen IV games" but I would lave to see the Gen III games with the physical/special split, Gen IV and V Pokemon as well as the game as a whole in enhanced graphics.

of course it makes a difference: if the main antagonist is legitimately genuinely ill, then not only does it make him a more complex character with regards to his motives but it also makes him more unsettling, adding tension to the game. if the main antagonist is just dumb and then once he's realised his mistake just goes 'ohhhhhh noooooooooooooooooo' then that seems like a bit of a cop out

I disagree. Although the whole expanding the land/ocean thing was incredibly stupid, It made an interesting plot dynamic and I could see a group of idiots stupid enough to go through with it hypothetically. Team Galactic was trying to somehow destroy and create a new world. There was no real reason for doing it besides Cyrus being insane. I don't even remember if they gave a reason why the grunts followed along with him. It just seemed liked a stupid idea for a plot poorly done to me.

I always thought that Magma was of the "TOO MUCH WATER IN HOENN LET'S EXPAND THE LAND TO HELP THE WORLD AND TO PLEASE GROUDON!" type of motives but Aqua thought "HOENN IS ALREADY FULL OF WATER, KYOGRE IS AWESOME 1+1=2. EXPAND THE SEA TO HELP KYOGRE AND TO SHOW OFF THE BIGGEST HOENN FEATURE!"

tl;dr: magma hates hoenn's water like hoenn haters but aqua like hoenn's water like hoennbabbies

Magma and Aqua did not want to remove all of the water, or all of the land, they wanted to expand each selectively for the legendary Pokemon they were trying to control.

Obviously even in a fictional universe removing all of either would be a terrible idea.

I'm so tired of seeing people bitch about Maxie and Archie. It makes total sense and it is a way more cohesive plot than the shit in Sinnoh and Unova.

tldr; Anyone who says Magma/Aqua had stupid objectives is a bandwagon retard, as bad as the watertrumpet kids and hasn't put any real thought into their goals or what they were saying.
