Smogon disregards OHKO moves entirely, they simply don't mention it. Bulbapedia is rather unclear about it. I guess it wouldn't hurt to test it. No guard can be skill swapped, can it?

Competitive battling not being important to Gamefreak doesn't mean they don't usually try to make Pokemon worthwhile. Machamp also gets No Guard, and he has Dynamic Punch to take advantage of it.

No it isn't. Smogon are just the only people who give a shit about the 6v6 singles meta.

GameFreak considers, and is trying to push, 6v6 singles as the story mode gameplay and 4v4 doubles as the competitive metagame.

GameFreak's actually done a really good job of balancing the 4v4 doubles with item + species clause meta.

Rotation is much better, except that entry hazards need a nerf like a motherfucker

TBH I think Smogon would embrace the rotation meta if it got implemented properly.

As of gen 4 it did affect it, as I created a Tentacool with No guard/Gastro Acid/Fissure/Sheer Cold to test this and it worked. I doubt they'd change it

Then, if Honedge did indeed get Guillotine, it would take a massive, smelly crap on the competitive metagame. Guillotine everything, and Shadow Sneak for the ghosts. Imagine that! Well, Strudy still resists OHKOs, so it might not be as big as it seems after all.

My objection to triples is that the whole "pokemon order is significant" thing is implemented poorly.

For one, in single-player, your lead pokemon should be in the center position.

For another, the "swap" action is confusing and poorly implemented. You can only swap far-left and far-right across TWO turns? What? No. Switching should be switching. You can swap any pokemon on the field with any OTHER, either on the field or off, in one turn. That's how that needs to be done.

Triples is a meta catering to hyper-offense because it works best when any pokemon on the field can hit whatever is in front of it. Adjusting a triples team for resistance and coverage mid-fight is just poorly done.

Hopefully triples gets its mechanics tuned up for Gen VI, especially with horde battles coming in to make the whole thing even more confusing

I've never had much of a problem with the battle order, so I suppose I can't really say much. I only play triples competitively though, I don't bother with it in game, and for the most part the first three Pokemon are definitely the most important, they're what you'll set up your whole teams strategy with and the other three are generally just their to take advantage of said strategy when a Pokemon get knocked out.

I agree the swapping out when 2 Pokemon or more are knocked out in a single turn is poorly explained but it's easy to pick up.
