But it more than made up for that with the massive gameplay improvements, those game have the most enjoyable postgame and largest replayability rivaling that of Platinum's postgame.

All pokemon games are linear you fucking donuts, the only difference here is that it is literally a straight line as opposed to the usual hop around the region that other games use to delude you into thinking you have a choice on where to go. The only time pokemon hasn't been linear is the split after Ecruteak City and all that managed to do was make the other path seem underleveled when you got to it and fuck over your levels for the rest of the game.

3rd best gen in my opinion, after 1 and 3. White2 was a great game for me. I liked most of the designs. Reshiram, Zekrom and Kyurem are now 3 of my favorite legendaries. Can't complain too much.

Get through rock tunnel and you can choose between erika's gym and the rocket hideout
Since you've reached celadon city, you can get fresh water and go to saffron and do the dojo
after the rocket hideout and subsequently the pokemon tower, you can do the silph co. or you can take one of the two routes leading down to fuchsia
After getting surf in the safari zone, give the teeth to the warden and beat koga, you can access the power plant and seafoam islands
Cinnabar island can also be reached, either from pallet or fuchsia

Great pokemon design both aesthetically and statwise. Combined with the new exp system, I actually wanted to use a full team for once.

Region is bigger than people think and allows for a lot of post game exploration.

Bretty good story

Completely linear. From the individual route paths to the gym "puzzles" to how you progress through the region itself.

Holds your hands. You can't go through a route without facing a rival or villain or professor or someone who stops the game to talk and who ends up pointing you in the right direction or is just giving you items to help you.

The new encounter mechanics is annoying as fuck and you can't go 5 steps without a random encounter in the grass.

I have a hard time distinguishing each Gen in my mind just because I think of Pokemon as a whole rather than what is in a certain cartridge.

I'm not really sure where the linear as fuck comes from--to me every Pokemon game is linear, but varying degrees of linear. I hardly noticed this in BW2 just because every "stop" had a new habitat list and other shit to do.

For me, Unova had the biggest batch of region specific bros since ever.

Unova also had the biggest ratio of liked characters for me. Girls and boys, I love pretty much all of them.

White has my favorite story in the series.
White 2 has my favorite gameplay.

One of my favorite gens, though there are definite problems. For me, the worst thing about Gen V was all the damn dialogue. You couldn't go a single route without somebody coming and talking to you about something or giving you an item. Also the encounter rate was horrible. You really couldn't get through a patch of grass without finding at least 3 Pokemon, and it got really tiring after a while. I know, repels, but sometimes you're caught in a cave and you've just run out. Also, BW2's story was a complete let-down. Your rival was completely one-dimensional, and Team Plasma was a joke. When Ghetsis and N showed up I felt more disappointed than anything. Overall, though, it was a great gen, with the only Pokemon I really didn't like being Sigilyph. I'd give it an 8/10.

I legitimately do not care that it is linear. I also find the pacing of the new pokemon that are encountered is good enough to pretty much make me consider everyone. Some in the earlier games were too inconvenient to ever use in a play through, Houndour for example isn't even available in the post-game in Johto

The Pokémon were my favorite thus far overall, perhaps not including my individual favorites but the overall regional Pokédex making much more of an impact on me than any generation since 1 did, largely because of the single best decision made in making these games: no older Pokémon, aside from a token Pikachu appearance, until after the Elite Four. That decision forced me to actually make favorites in this generation, to connect to entirely new Pokémon, making the experience much more interesting for me. Characterization was also a major upgrade over previous generations, with N's mistaken ideals and Ghetsis' utter sadism and depravity being like nothing in the main series before. And the best part? Extending the plot through the battles against the Elite Four. It meant that the E4, and the grind before it, didn't feel like a shitty letdown following an engaging plot, only part of the game because of series tradition *stares at a nearby copy of Pokémon Platinum*. Oh, and Audino grinding made the whole experience of level grinding my team to gain levels and evolve go much, much faster.

B2/W2... I have mixed feelings on them overall. They really could be argued to be a step back from B/W, what with bringing back HMs within the main quest, putting the E4 back after the real villain was already dealt with, and having older Pokémon all over the place again. But it's still better than anything the earlier generations could claim. It still had at least some of the advancements in plot and characterization (though some of the linearity enforcement measures got a lot sillier, like the line of people dancing for no reason), and it still had the immensely useful grinding against Audino.

Overall: best gen yet. Don't drop the ball in Gen6, GF.

BW2 saved this generation, I couldn't bring myself to finish black because I absolutely hated the majority of the Gen V designs (not a genwunner, just disappointed by Gen V). I thought the starters looked really bad, especially smaurrott and emboar. The entire time I played the game I was wondering how the fuck the samurott sprite was meant to move on water or land with those tiny legs. BW2 gave me options which I loved and had a much better story overall. I think it twas great that the story pretty much said in it's own little way "Team Plasma's goal was retarded, even the NPCs see that and Ghetsis was only striving for world domination". There's an actual post-game that I haven't finished because it takes a fair while as well. Much happier with BW2.

So you (if this is the same person) going from criticizing me from perceiving that I thought Red was hard for having Pokemon around 15-20 levels above an average-leveled team, to saying that the post-game trainers in BW weren't complete shit for having trainers with pokemon a few levels above the average team.

I'm not even saying that BW were bad games, I enjoyed them immensely, but this argument is beyond fucking stupid. You're comparing a few new places and finding six criminals (which can be done in a VERY short amount of time with a guide, which is nothing less than bad design), to eight more badges, far more shitty new trainers, what's tantamount to a new champion, and another region. They're not at all comparable, and I'm honestly running out of ways to express this sentiment.

I agree that Kanto is a better post-game than the one BW has, but the Cynthia rematch is practically the same as fighting Red. Perhaps it's less common for people to experience since it's not indicated that she's actually there, while you're all but told to explore Mt. Silver, but still.

It was a good Gen. It introduced some nice changes to the breeding mechanics, not to mention to some abilities and whatnot. And DW was pretty useful.

The story in the first games was really good too. I cried in the end of BW.

Region was original and unique, also extravagant. Pokemon were a good reflection of their region. No evolutions of gen 1 pleased me, we dont really need red and blue tainting our games. Their time has passed, and Black and White shall die too.

However, the region was fairly lacklustre and the Pokemon designs were my least favourite (although that's entirely subjective). BW2 improved on BW alot (except for the story, which doesn't really matter after you play it for the first time) but I still prefer the others. I also disliked their attempts at roadblocking. I'd much rather be blocked by a tree/rock than some NPCs with lazy excuses.

Also their was a lot of hand-holding, but it's been like that since gen 4 and I highly doubt that it will change any time soon.

The difference is there's no unnecessary grinding
The entirety of Kanto is tedious and the only kind of saving grace is Red, but with BW you get some of the backstory on the disbanded Sages in a sidequest, and when you find one you're actually rewarded for finding them.

As far as plot is concerned, the primary reason of returning to Kanto is to get the backstory on what had happened there since Red and Blue. If Koga is in the Elite Four, who took over his place at the gym? If Giovonni is gone, who took over his place at the gym? What happens to your character after you become Kanto league champion? Did Blue stay the league champion afterwards, or will you have to fight Red for that title at some point? In Crystal, will Eusine ever capture Suicune?

And you get rewarded for defeating some of the Kanto gym leaders with TMs as well, not to mention receiving another badge, the entire driving point of the games.

BW's postgame content was horrid. The rivals that jump at you at every possible occasion were worse.

I also dislike Vanilluxe because I don't like things with multiple heads. Including Doduo, Dodrio and Zweilous (Hydreigon is somewhat okay.)

You can have a good story without harassing me with dialogue every time I leave a Pokemon center or arrive in a new city. BW got away with it for the most part because the payoff was good. BW2 I nearly put down because the dialogue was so intrusive and uninteresting.

It's not the main story exclusively; it's just the way newer games deliver information to the player. In older games, you had to seek things out and could initiate the conversations whenever you chose to. You were mostly only stopped dead in your tracks for rival battles. The newer games deliver information to the player much more directly, through the use of the Pokemon equivalent of cutscenes.
I don't think the cutscene approach works well in Pokemon because it often interrupts personal objectives like training and exploring, and makes the game more linear. It just seems to me like the game is moving more towards texty JRPG. And there's nothing wrong with that genre, I just think a less dialogue focused style is more suited to the "YOUR adventure" feel that Pokemon has.

I agree to an extent that the story in gen 5 didn't bring down the gameplay; however I think the way the story was presented felt intrusive.
