I've thought that...but you have to remember, there are massive amounts of every Pokemon specie. After surveying a good amount, that's the average. In the anime, it's even seen that Pokemon are differently sized. But it could also be that Japanese people are short, so therefore the Pokemon are that size to be bigger than them...idk

Japanese cannot into height/weight.

Here's an example from Bleach:

Zaraki is 202cm (6'7") but he is only 90 kg (198 lbs). A muscle-monster like that should at least be 110 kg or so.

Tōshirō is only 133 cm (4'4") and (this is where it gets retarded) 28 kg (62 lbs). I know he is supposed to be tiny and frail but what the hell?

So, in short, I stopped taking the official info as facts, and use my headcanon when I think about a character's height/weight in Japanese games and animes.

There's your problem. Nobody ever says that in comics. But anime/manga/videogames artbooks DO say that kinda of shit. You see numbers written that don't mach what you see in the series. A is taller than B in the manga but in the data it says the same number, for example. It happens all the fucking time.

Except that Pokemon in the games are consistenly the same size. Most non-gameplay mechanic discrepancies only occur in alternate mediums.

Can you please give me some examples of size discrepancies within the main series games?

Dude, that's a restriction of the gameplay and you know it. How would you liked them to have used that type of battle system with a one-pixel-large Joltik and an Onix that you could only see the bottom of?

The art makes it seem like certain pokemon are different sizes than the dex says they are. I'd even say the sprites disagree, although to say they're on the same proportion is folly. At least you get the sense that some pokes are supposed to be small and others are big. I imagine XY will fix some of this, and if not, the amie will have some indication. I do also realize that a lot of pokemon are only supposed to be large compared to a kid. If you were 4'8", a lot more pokemon would be bigger than you. Like a lot, I prefer to use my own judgment on the matter since there's too many sizes that don't make sense. I don't want to bring up Nidoking, but it really should be the size of an adult human. At least 5'7", or preferably 5'10" or 5'11".

Just when I imagine them, their official size doesn't fit with the rest of the world. They are pocket monsters. I also don't INTEND to speak against canon. I'm well aware the games say different things. The other media say so many different things that one wonders if there's any consistency across the franchise at all. I'm convinced that they just portray them however it is they want, so there IS no universal height at all. Strangely, I don't know if the height value is even used for anything in game. The only instance I can think of is whether or not you can have a poke indoors in HG/SS, and I'm not sure on that. As for the dex as a whole, it's just there to look cool. Everything it says is contradictory to gameplay and the portrayal of pokemon overall. I love pokemon and the concepts behind it, but even if it was consistent, I would perhaps feel the same way. You can disagree with stuff you like, you don't HAVE to accept everything it says.

I shouldn't have to defend what the canonical sizes of the Pokemon are. The games clearly state them to be a certain size. When compared to the trainer in the Dex, they maintain that size. Your "argument" is based entirely on your imagination.

First of all, if this thread was made someone did care. Second, I do not accept game sizes as canon, yet unlike you, I do not try to push my opinions through someone else's throat. I did the math a few weeks ago, by comparing Braviary to a bald eagle. If Braviary's wingspan is less than five feet, it is much smaller than an eagle.

The game came first - that was how they were designed. Your opinion came afterwards.

Unrealistic. Nothing. However, when you look at Emboar without any prior knowledge, you usually assume that it is somewhat a large creature, with iron like fortitude. However, when I look at the official info they give it says it is 1.6 meter with base 65 defenses. And that is a disappointment.

I think the height used in the Dex is merely an estimate/average. Keep in mind that when you get in those Magikarp size showoffs for that Fisherman, he calls out a different size for each one you catch.
