Pokémon Tool

Attach this card to 1 of your Pokémon in play that is not Pokémon-EX. That Pokémon may use this card's attack instead of its own. If this card isn't attached to a Stage 2 Pokémon, at the end of your turn, discard this card.

(C)(C) Gold Breaker 30+
This attack does 20 more damage for each Pokémon-EX your opponent has in play.

Basically, its purpose is to let you tech counters against the most popular metadecks into your deck easier and with little space required, so that you can cover your weaknesses easier. The goal is to lower the RPS aspect of the game lower and buff non-EX decks.

examples:

1) If you have a water weak deck that gets raped by kyurems, include this and a steel type. Give the steel poke this and a DCE, and it will OHKO Kyurem with a Keldeo and a Deoxys on the bench.

2) In a water deck, give it to a fire type, and it OHKO's a Genesect or Virizion if they have 3 EX in play (very likely).

That discard condition is there to balance it, and it's vulnerable to tool scrapper as well, and it competes for deck space with a lot of powerful tools like silver bangle and silver mirror. I also thought it might be too inconsistent as an ace spec. But maybe I just underestimate its impact.

Well, a drop of Darkrai is probably due to "LOL lack of overall attack power" due to Blastoise and Team Plasma decks running around and it is hard for Darkrai decks to OHKO things even with Absol

Which Tropius are you looking at? The PLB one has nothing to do with CFF, it just draws until you have 6 in your hand. Virizion/Genesect doesn't really need many Pokémon on the bench so a Call for Family attack wouldn't offer anything. It does need to draw G-Booster fast though so I can understand Tropius, although I don't personally like it.

Mewtwo? Really? With Deoxys and Drifblims flying all over the meta?
And lol Tropius, it has a nice attack, but Virizion NVI is better, it draws cards independently of your hand size and works as a non ex attacker instead of just giving up prizes. Mr. Mime? You don't have a bench full of Tynamos, most of them are fucking EXs, that Mr. Mime is a waste of space.
And Virbank/HTL? That might help the first rounds, but the top cut will see a lot of Virizion because lol BDIF. That deck should be using Colress Machine and Shadow Triad to keep doing 200 damage every turn since T2.
Four Pokemon Catcher? Does this guy even reads? Just drop a Plasma Energy on Genesect EX and there you have it, OH I FORGOT, he doesn't run Plasma Energies.
I really hope this isn't a winning deck because it's a fucking mess.

I was referring to Virizions abillity Verdant Wind, to tech it on any deck with prisms and have special conditions immunity.
But for it's attack Emmerald Slash, yes, you can only attach basic grass

And you can't move blends with Hydreigon, since his rulling specifies it only gives dark energy when attached to a Pokemon, so when moving it out of a pokemon it would change to colorless.
Energy Switch is getting rotated too, so just find another way of energy acceleration or play top tier decks.

Hydreigon was just an example on how it is one of the few ways to move "Grass" Energies around. Also, "This card provides [C] Energy" text only applies when it is in your hand/deck/discard pile. It is worded that way to prevent people from trying to attach Special Energies by Abilities/Attacks/etc. that only works with Basic Energies such as Deluge and Flare Navigation

If they can't stop or change T1 Plasma Gale, Blow Through, Jet Blast, etc. They can even the game by making everyone susceptible to a donk.

Try googling "セレビィゲノセクトデッキ" and you'll find quite a few.

The retreat-Switch thing didn't stop CMT from being a tier 1 deck in its day. Also, if you're that worried about it, Switch, Escape Rope and Warp Point are all legal in Palace format, just use as many as you want. As far as retreating goes, we've got Float Stone, Skyarrow Bridge and Unown Q MD.

Oh shit, Warp Energy too. Genesect is active after attacking last turn, you attach Warp Energy, switch to Celebi, attach a Grass, retreat via Skyarrow/Unown Q/Float Stone and you're ready to attack again.

Dammit guys, I just searched for a picture for the OP, that deck isn't supposed to win Worlds. Here's the build I was testing before NXD-on was announced:

3 Virizion EX
3 Genesect EX

4 Juniper
4 N
4 Skyla
2 Shadow Triad
4 Colress Machine
3 Ultra Ball
3 Catcher
3 Switch
3 Energy Switch
1 Energy Search
3 Tropical Beach
1 G-Booster

9 Grass
4 Plasma

=54 cards. I tried to build it with one purpose in mind, using 3 consecutive G-Boosters. The extra 6 cards can either add consistency, fix certain matchups or add another purpose to the deck (like adding HTL for more damage with Megalo Cannon). It worked pretty damn well against decks that didn't have a way to OHKO consistently (Darkrai and Plasma mainly). Blastoise seems to be the most equal matchup as you both OHKO each other and you can both stall momentarily if you miss a G-Booster/Black Ballista by taking out Blastoise or G-Booster. Both Drifblim made the Plasma matchup easier but, imo, they aren't really needed.

I haven't tested it at all without Energy Switch so I don't know how it does without it. It really helped when you tried to stream 3 G-Boosters so I guess the deck will miss it.

I have crossed feelings when planing a decklist for Gensect/Virizion.
A part of me wants to add Virizion NVI or Drifblims DRX and PLB, add some techs, make it look like a real top tier pro deck, etc etc.
But I always end up thinking: "Why would I waste energy on anything but Genesects G Booster?"
Why would I want to tech things when I can just OHKO anything on the meta?
My list had some cards from before NXD, so I'll just change that and post it for the curious guys.

If you are serious, what you posted as 'proof' is actually the problem. small pokemon like hoppip remain the same while new cards of legendaries and unevolving pokemon now have around 60 or 120 hp more than before depending whether they are ex or not. i think full evolutions have gotten stronger too but not enough proportional to the risk of their underpowered basics.

even most of Japan hates the current format, and they usually love stupid shit. just shows how bad it has become..

The main idea is to build a G Booster at T2 and keep doing it every turn using colress machine untill Genesect is KOed, when Genesect is KOed move an energy to a benched Virizion EX with Exp Share and change it to active, drop the energy of turn and Emerald Slash to charge the next benched Genesect EX and Shadow Triad to recover G Booster, finally switch Genesect EX to active and repeat over and over.
I decided to use Plasma Frigate as stadium because this deck runs less pokemon than others and it's hard to recover from consecutive KOs

I feel like the deck would benefit more from SAB than Frozen City.

I'd probably cut something else for another Catcher since Genesect's ability only goes off when you attach a Plasma from hand.

Yeah my first list had SAB so Virizion EX could return freely to the bench once Genesect is ready, but I'm afraid of a Victini EX steamrolling my entire deck...
Definitely I wouldn't use Tropical Beach on this one, the plan is really simple and I always end up with cards stuck in my hand, that's why I don't run Bianca.
But yeah, the real question is:
Skyarrow Bridge? Or Plasma Frigate?

As funny as it might sound, I think the best option for a Fire tech counter might be regular Keldeo BCS.

Keldeo BCS
Pros:
- Water-type (dah)
- Hits only with colorless (I don't have to add prisms or anything like that)
- Has 1 retreat cost (Can freely retreat with SAB after doing his job)
- Hits with 60 to OHKO threats like Victini EX (After super effective)
- It's not an EX, so if KOed, it only gives one prize

Cons:
- Low HP
- Might end up being my only basic to start a match as this deck runs a few pokemon

What do you guys think?
Other options could be Keldeo EX or Kyurem EX PLB, but they can't oneshot.
Also, thoughts on using DCE?

Why are some people hyping that new Haxorus? It doesn't have any energy acceleration. If we had double rainbow energy in the format I could understand how you would be able to attack with it (in the event you somehow manage to avoid getting all of your 50 HP axew ko'd), but even then it would get OHKO'd right away by Kyurem which is faster to set up and more versatile.

I don't think we would see that many evolutions getting played even if we had broken time space/ old rare candy. Maybe Flareon, Scizor and Seismitoad that attack for just a DCE would get a boost, but I think they are still just too weak to compete. Dude, remove that Snorlax and use Absol as tech, without snorlax you can remove the DCE and use 4 Blends to have more consistency. Also this deck is about fast attackers and Snorlax needs a lot of time and energy. Lugia doesn't need DCE since you'll scramble switch it for a Kyurem with 3 energies+turn energy for a three prizes KO and game.
Also, 3 Thundurus is more than what you need, 2 is the standard.
Also -1 Colress Machine for +1 HTL, those HTL gives you the magic number of 180 along with Kyurems Blizzard Burn and Deoxys bonus.
-1 Team Plasma Ball. 2-2 is ok
In my opinion, this deck runs perfectly without Max Potions because yolo.
You need more supporters tho.
+2 N, +1 Skyla and optional +1 Bianca.(Instead of the extra Thundurus EX)

I would give you my list but I'm already testing it with Plasma Blast proxies since I'm not going to worlds.

Here's a deck breakdown of what Pooka used on nats, it's a pretty standard build.
I would change a little things like changing a float stone for a team plasma ball, but just like him I feel like this deck has more consistency without Lugia EX

It's unlikely, all of the reprints in Plasma Blast have 1-3 types artwork in Japan and said types have already been printed internationally.

But also I'm wondering why we didn't see reprints of Revive, SSU, Pokemon Communications, Energy Switch, Full Heal, PlusPower, and Pokedex in Plasma Blast.

Dark Explorers is a great set, FA Darkrai EX still goes for a pretty penny and at least one Golden Catcher is a must for any player with swag.

You will still be able to trade those cards if you got them before monday.

It's just that when you buy a pack on monday, the cards you get won't be tradable, if you got them before then, they will.

It would cause a shitstorm if they disabled the current released cards from trade, since people have no idea if they traded with other people for those cards or not.

Well I went to the PR, nothing much to report.

I traded for some Suicunes, hoping that will be a good safeguard deck.

Plenty of autists, I played 2, and lots of 2cool4u elite players who would barely look at anyone that hasn't placed in worlds

I didn't get any Full Arts or EXs, but I did get a G-Booster that I traded for a Suicune since I have no interest in spending hundreds of dollars on a Genesect deck.

There's so much wrong with this list it's hard to say where to begin. You have too few supporters, way too many switch cards, a lot of balls, only 3 catchers, only 3 colress machines with Lugia, and an energy count so minimal it's risky. and why HTL without Virbank? And using Lugia, Absol and Keldeo together with 3 Kyurem is weird as well.

Original Energy Retrieval: Needs to discard 1 card to put 2 Basic Energies from discard pile to hand, +/-0
New Energy Retrieval: No discard requirement, straight +1

Base Set Blastoise: Rain Dance can only attach Water Energy to Water Pokemon
Blastoise EX (FireRed LeafGreen): Energy Rain can attach Water Energy to any Pokemon at the cost of 10 damage per attachment, gives up 2 Prizes
Boundaries Crossed Blastoise: Deluge can attach Water Energy to ANY Pokemon without any drawbacks, only gives up 1 Prize

Every year Pokemon TCG goes through a set rotation, usually a few sets are taken out. In the upcoming 2013-14 season it will be Next Destinies-On and with the "general rule of thumb of older printed cards", any older cards that are reprinted in the legal sets are legal for play.

I'm thinking of using Master Balls as my replacement tool.

Also, what's the ruling on how older cards that were reprinted, but got buffed?

I enjoy fast paced card games these days. Like Yu-Gi-Oh. But it's format right now is garbage, and Pokemon looks enticing enough for me to jump back in.

Regarding to using older cards that have been errated such as Energy Retrieval and Rare Candy, it is preferred to just play with the newer copies. However, if you don't have enough, then you can play older ones but use the newest version outside your deck as reference

In all seriousness, the current meta is quite fast due to Big Basic EX Pokemons and against certain decks it is possible to donk them T1 with things like Hypotoxic Laser and Virbank City Gym combo.

If I got this down correctly, that means I can use the Ancient Masterball and the old Rayquaza ex from EX:Dragons, while having references to their errata'd versions.

Also, yeah. I am an old timer to this game I'm afraid. Hopefully my judgment in the past will still be viable in matches today.

I started with the e+ cards of really late GSC and ended with the last set of RSE/FRLG. I believe it was Holon Phantoms or something.

Are Holon Pokemon legal by the way?

Nope, Anicent Master Ball and Rayquaza EXs do completely different things compared to the newer versions. So you still have to use newer copies of those.

All the old cards (bar reprints for basic things like Switch, Energy Search, basic energies) are not legal for the current format

It shouldn't be too expensive, you should be able to get it for less than $10 for a playset of 4. It might become less popular due to the potential rise of Virizion EX / Genesect EX decks (Virizion EX's Ability negates Special Conditions if the Active Pokemon has Grass Energy attached to it)

Would you happen to have a price guide to the Pokemon TCG?

I'm thinking of securing my boss monsters like the new Rayquaza EX. I'm not a Rarity/Art whore, so any version would do... unless certain card artworks are just to distasteful for me.

Lastly, is there a 'Timeless' format by any chance? Meaning I can create a deck from all of the sets in the TCG's run.

Unlimited is technically a thing but it isn't really supported. It just exists but there's so many completely busted combos that it's rarely worth playing without making some restrictions of your own.

This card game should honestly go through with the all cardsets legal idea, that's prominent in Yu-Gi-Oh.

The Hall of Fame List could definitely keep the game in check, and since the format changes every three months, it won't become too problematic imo.

As for prices, I mostly check either Troll and Toad or my local (Dutch) online store.

Back when I played, I pretty much used Fire/Electricity, and used my favorite Pokemon, using their most efficient versions to help me win locals.

If I recall I believe I was using Blaziken/Raichu lines with Rayquaza EX as the card I push for game with.

By the way, I'm not exactly sure about this, but is "EX" different from "ex"? They function the same way to my knowledge.

Now I have it full and PTCGO helps me to improve my irl deck.
I would suggest thinking on a deck you want to build, think on the hardest things of the deck (Not counting supporters) like the EXs, and make a trade for them. Then you'll get a good and fast start.

It's new to me, I haven't seen any mention about it on the Pokegym yet. But it kinda reminds me of the those odd Emboar/Serperior/Samurott boxes we got last year.

I doubt it's UK-only though, value boxes are usually an international product.
