Uninvolving the water and trumpets, Gen 3 still brought a few good things onto the plate.
Stat system overhaul especially so shinies won't be shitty 100% of the time and IVs and EVs weren't pantsonhead retarded.

Natures and Abilities which introduced many people to competitive play and made many Pokemon more useful.
Side tracking things like the Contests, the Battle Frontier and Secret Bases many of you boner over so much.
Dive was cool and all but it was surely lacking.
Looking at things an objective way, Hoenn still isn't the worst region, it's more or less in the middle.
Now subjectively, I think the Hoenn starters are the best designed, ingame, and competitive-wise. Hoenn has a lot of favorable Pokemon, from Ludicolo to Gardevoir, Absol and Metagross, many more. There were also a few gimmicks and fillers like Castform or Kecleon. Hoenn kinda started the whole "Legendaries are gods" shit but the Regis happen to be my favorites, great design concepts and great execute, The Lati@'s were fine also, there only like 3 "legends" anyway. In game you have a pretty good wellspring of Pokemon to choose from, hell you can catch 3 dragons and the Regis (assuming you knew the manuals of the games had a braile translator in them) before you even beat the game, I'd give the Hoenn-only dex a 7.5/10, some designs are hit and miss but at least you can actually CATCH fucking Hoenn pokemon (LOOKIN AT YOU JOHTO) and the ingame a 9.5/10.
