Here's an idea. Maybe the earlier generations have simpler designs because the graphical capabilities of the earlier handhelds were limited. Now that they have more powerful hardware, the designs are more complex.

Emboar would probably look better if it weren't wearing pants. It's a matter of color balance, there's no orange on its bottom half. Also gloves that go past the elbow look needlessly feminine for such a macho pokemon. Taking away the lining of the gloves and boots make it look less excessive as well. Overall just make its design look less like it's dressed for a cosplay party. Infernape looks alright, the swirl breast plate looks like a bra though.

I don't necessarily think people hate on Charizard for the stealth rock. I think people just joke around about it.
I've only seen a couple people call Typhlosion furbait but then again most neckbeards fap to all the pokemon.
Mixed reactions between Blaziken and Infernape.
The only starter I see people go out of their way to shit on and make snarky comments is Emboar. As seen on this thread and many others as well.

They are designed for the system they're on, basically. It's why gen1/2 were low colors, 3 were more detailed, etc etc as the resolution got higher and limits got lower.

typhlosion is boring at worst, decent at best.
charizard just gets hate because everyone thought it was the shit as a kid, and all kids still think this, except it's a generic dragon and shitty pokemon.
i think blaziken is badass looking; first fire/fighting so it was actually cool then, looks like a neat native american street fighter bird.
infernape is pretty meh, not too terrible, but not that great either, would be better if it wasn't the seconds fire/fighting in a row.

emboar is shitty and shitty looking.

Regardless of the source material, if something looks bad to someone it's hard to change their mind. Since the first three generation of starter Pokemon were so simply designed, its set a precedent of what Pokemon are supposed to look like in our mind. Had Emboar and Infernape been Digimon designs, we would've had no problem with them because they fit more with our idea of what Digimon are supposed to look like.
