I guess following your own rules is better than the official rules given by pokemon at the VGC?
And showdown has just the same ratio of kids/good players as Wi-Fi

This may be true, but Showdown has infinitely better matchmaking than Wi-Fi. Thus the relative amount of competent players you will face is much higher.

It should also be noted that virtually all past VGC finalists practice almost exclusively on Showdown.

If Gen 6 were to be backwards compatible, say hello to weather wars in the gen 6 metagame.
Since they are the original dragon counter, and now a fairy counter, steel will run more rampant than ever. And with the perma rain, that scizor/ferrothorn/honedge of theirs will never go down.
