Blue, I pretty much just used an overleveled Blastoise and whatever my other highest level pokemon were for reviving Blastoise. Probably the legendary birds.

I think the 4th Gen was the first in which I didn't do this.

I never had any friends who liked pokémon, so I couldn't get to trade Haunter and Graveler. When generation 3 came out I got disappointed that I wasn't able to trade my bros. Their "spiritual successors" from Fire Red are now in my Black2 though.
