It doesn't matter how good you are, you'd have to get lucky. If you make one team and then the enemies' team is entirely superior, there's not much you can do to win. There's no skill or interactive factor in this, you just choose the best action and hope you get a crit.

It depends on which section of the game you're talking about. If you're talking about gym leader/E4 stuff, sure use whatever the hell you want. If you're talking about postgame and competitive battling, your favorites probably aren't going to make the cut.

While I will agree it's stupid to just rely on any old pokemon since not all of them are going to work for you, but it's also stupid to expect everyone to think the same way.
