Going digital gives it a very stiff, artificial feel that was better earlier when things were done more by hand. It's cheaper digital.

The attack animations and animations for specific Pokemon are reused multiple times in a single episode and even used over several different episodes.

The script is terrible. I mean, even for a kids show, it's terrible.

It looks like the characters are pasted onto big scenes and just scrolled across to make it look like movement, and skips in animations can be seen.

Given how much money Polemon STILL makes for Nintendo you'd think they might spring for a bigger budget anime if they really wanted to reboot the franchise.

What you're describing is more along the lines of quality control or being horribly off-model rather than stylistically off-model.

The animation I have to admit, as much as I love the show, is okay at best currently. I suppose they have a budget though which they should be using a little more of and time constraints. How to say... like, the animation isn't terrible, or even bad (applying to most general, non-battle scenes), but it's falling behind the times a little. The digital art itself though is picking up at least.

Also, keep in mind far-away shots generally give us those derpy Meguca faces in any anime.

I can say at least by Battle Frontier, it had gone digital. It could be possible that AG as a whole was digital, but I haven't analyzed it. I do think that up to the end of Johto it stayed hand colored.

The transition from hand-drawn to digital animation occurred in the Season 5 episode "Here's Lookin' At You, Elekid" which was shortly before the Johto League.

Seasons 6+ (Advanced Generation, DP, BW) have all been 100% digital.
