It's hardly about the name itself, but rather about whether the name sounds good when you say it or not.
Talonflame doesn't flow well, it sounds awkward. That's why it's a a bad name, and not because it's two words stuck together.
I'm not a fan of Helioptile either, because it also sounds bad to me. But it's not a bad name in itself, it's a good word combination.
