I started with Venusaur, and I've stuck with grass starters ever since for the sake of tradition. Blastoise was probably a better choice though, especially since Psychic ran roughshod over everything in R/B/Y.

Venusaur bro here. To be perfectly frank, I chose Bulbasaur as a kid because I read somewhere before I started playing that he was the easiest to train, and I had no idea what I was going into. However, once it evolved into Venusaur I never regretted a thing. I loved "Pine". He was like my best friend. I later read one of the pokemon comics, and it had Bill talking about witnessing his Ivysaur evolving one morning, and how beautiful it was. I pretty much felt the same way, even though it was just a goddamn game.

I've added a Venusaur to my main team in White 2, and he's still my bro.

Unless you were diligent as hell and did the Mew Glitch in R/B. You could get Ivysaur with a 9 special and Blastoise with 28 all before the 5th badge.

back when LeafGreen was released, I chose Bulbasaur
I played the earlier games, too, but that Bulbasaur is the oldest Pokémon I have, probably because you couldn't trade from gen II to gen III
I took him with me through Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova, beating everyone in our way
So yeah, Venusaur all the way

I loved Bulbasaur and all it's evos, but actually the only other grass type I've chosen was Torterra because turtles are pretty cool. I've taken water for all the rest except B2/W2, which I took fire for the first time.

If starters could have their hidden ability from the get-go, Bulbasaur would be the best. Chlorophyll makes him pretty awesome.

Most people picked Bulbasaur first and love him. I find him a little boring because grass/poison is such a humdrum type combo.

I picked Bulbasaur on by first playthroughs, but when FR/LG came out, I decided to pick Squirtle and fell in love. The amazing defense you get out of it, and the ability for Blastoise to learn Earthquake and Ice Beam to counter its two weaknesses is great fun for a casual playthrough.
