Since we now know that GameFreak is not afraid to add new types, what kind of new types do you think we might see in the future? Light, Sound, Cyber, Cosmic, Magic, whatever?

The image is just an example. I'm not advocating magma or anything.

I don't agree with an Air/Wind type, but I think there should be flying type pokemon based on wind or weather, or pokemon that don't have wings (like a Big Bad Wolf style pokemon that uses special flying attacks).

Light is called Saint type in Japanese. Light type moves include moves based on physical light (e.g. Flash, Hyper Beam, and other currently Normal type moves) and healing.

Cyber is for software-based pokemon like Porygon. They're basically computer code that's developed a physical manifestation. Artificial type is too broad.

Cosmic is for space aliens and interdimensional aliens and cosmic entities, not fairies. For example, Palkia, Dialgia, and Arceus.

nice, but glass will need to have speed as well as attack, because it will have bad survival abilities. perhaps it should ability instead? 'glass body- take 2X damage from physical attacks, takes half damage from special attacks' or something like that.

They could also introduce new aliens.
They could use sci-fi themed attacks like Laser Beam, Gamma Ray, Heat Seaker, Abduction, Photon Cannon, Tractor Beam, Energy Blade, etc.

"Holy" is typically translated as "Light." Apparently murrikans can't handle a little holiness that isn't Christ.

"Cosmic" could easily cover things outside "Fairy," like said, a Cthulhu-esque or otherwise alien creature. "Fairy" brings to mind earth spirits; "Cosmic" implies extraterrestrial origin.

I'm not sold on "Rubber" and "Energy" seems like to broad an idea(electricity, for example, is a form of energy, as is heat).

What about Magic type? It's really annoying to see pokemon based on witches and voodoo dolls and whatnot shoehorned into ghost or dark or psychic or fairy or some combination of those.

Instead of a rubber/glass type, I suggest a Junk type. It encompasses every material that is not found in the natural world. Think: Garbodor (Poison/Junk), Klinklang (Steel/Junk) Conkeldurr (Fighting/Junk) etc.

I'd retcon:
Fire and Electric are now Energy type
Dark and Ghost to Occult type
Steel and Rock to Mineral type
Dragon and Fairy to Mythical type
Grass and Ground to Earth type
Ice to Cold Type

The only type that ive seen that really makes sense is Sound type.

Another Type that could pooooosibly work, is a Void type, a lack of matter or relating to antimater in someway. making it similar to normal type, no super effectives no resistances, possibly immune to normal and psychic, and essentially ??? type. Pokemon that could become retconned to this type are possibly porygon, Unown, Shedinja, Spiritomb, Giratina, and Kyurem

There's isn't one. In theory the number of types should expand with the number of monsters to keep the gameplay from getting stale as type combinations start to become less unique, but that can lead to an overwhelming variety so it's something that must be handled with care.

I don't. I don't think that Fairy and Magic are the same thing. Yes, certain Psychic pokémon should be Fairy. But Fairy is closer to what we can see in Changeling the Lost than to what we can see in Dungeons and Dragons. And I do think that Fairy looks a lot more like Normal than like Psychic - which is good, because there are far too much Normal pokémons.

I completely disagree. Sound may be an interesting type, but I find this idea really problematic. What would be a Sound Pokémon ? There are too few options. Some other types would be FAR more obvious, for example Cosmic and, yes, Cyber.

Only new type valid IMO is sound, I'm actually a bit disappointed GF didn't announce Sound and Fairy.
Also, air = flying. I wouldn't mind flying getting renamed to Air, seems more generic thus compatible with fire, water etc, but I'm afraid is too late for that.

Yes, yes, and yes. In my opinion it's obvious, but let's explain.

A dragon is something colossal, terrifying, mythic, and monstruous. It is the complete opposite of "Normal". Furthermore, this type was designed as the "ultimate" type, resistant simultaneously to Fire, Water, Plant, and Electric, which are the four main types (because of the starter and of the emblematic Pikachu). It is indeed a very resistant type.

A bug is a tiny annoying thing with a chitine armor and is disgusting to lot of peoples. It doesn't look like "Normal" at all. It has to be vulnerable against Flying, Rock, and Fire, unlike normal.

A ghost is nothing but Normal, again. A ghost has to be non-tangible. We could as well translate "Spirit" or "Ether". Yes, Ether is an element. Pokémon NEEDS a ghost type, since it is of course something that "NORMAL" attacks can't hit or touch at all.

At contrary, "Sound" doesn't look like anything to me. How could we recognize a Sound Pokémon, outside of its backstory ? Of course, there are SOME Pokémon which are particularly linked to Sound. But these aren't common, and I don't see how we could design enough to make an entire type with Sound. And I don't see what special relation would Sound have with the other types, in a defensive way (offensively, I'm okay with the idea). Sound isn't a substance, nor a big particularity. EVERY Pokémon is loud and audible.

Not at all. Music is one of the more common applications to sound. sound can be any sort of waves, vibrations, frequencies. A vibration pokemon could be sound, such as seismitoad and its prevos. If you dont think its possibly to make many different sound based pokemon then you have no imagination.

it would definitely have different weaknesses and resistances than normal pokemon. Sound can break glass, it can break apart stone at a high enough frequency and intensity. Sound would be super effective against Psychic, Ice, Rock, Ghost and Fighting, it would be not very effective against Sound, Water, Flying, Ground, and steel. It would resist Sound, Ghost, and Psychic and have no immunities.

I think that the reasons why you find that they could be Sound type is in almost every case a small detail, considering the conditions for a type to work well. Yes, all these pokemons are linked to Sound, there isn't a doubt at this subject ; but it isn't enough.

To recap :
- A type has to be graphically recognizable instantly in its essence, even if some pokemons have a voluntary hidden type.
- To be a Pokemon type and not only an attack type, a type has to be a substance, an element, which explains why the Pokemon has some specific vulnerabilities and resistances, like if the very Sound type was damaged when the Pokemon his damaged.
- To be a Pokemon type and not only an attack type, a type ALSO has to be permanent, passive, and non-dependent of the will.

I think sound type is too limited, wave type would have more opportunities.
It would include sound, light, data, energy and others.

Porygon would be changed to wave, other sound using pokemon would have it as a secondary type. Some psychic, electric and ghost pokemon could have it too. Flash and other visual attacks would be wave type.

There could be a radioactive pokemon and another data pokemon used as a mascot for trade and wifi, like chansey is used for pokemon centers. And best of all, we would get an amazing pokemon, a microwave.
