Everyone knows that the battle mechanics in 1 were terrible. And most people generally agree they improve with every gen

But it seems like a lot of people who say gen 5 is their favorite argue that it's because the battles are better, when that should just be implied

All they're arguing is over who had the better childhood; they're nostalgic shitheads who will place whatever Gen they started with, whether it be III or I or IV or whatever, and completely dismiss any opinions to the contrary and take anything even remotely wrong with the other gens and blow them completely out of fucking proportion.

The original Red and Blue? Absolutely. Gold and Silver blow them out of the water as updated Red and Blue with an expansion pack of Pokemon and most of the bugs worked out.

Now, if you count FireRed and LeafGreen as Gen 1, then absolutely not. Gen 1 introduced the largest amount of Pokemon, the vast degree of them good, with excellent legendaries, as well as all the core mechanics.

Gen 1 is a very good generation; Red and Blue weren't very good games.

I actually didn't bother looking it up; I suppose Gen 5 did introduce more. That doesn't devalue its contributions (especially since other gens rely on it for evolutions).

Honestly, I'd say
5 > 1 > 3 > 2 = 4. I personally enjoy 2 much more than 4, but admit 4 was more productive than 2 ever was, and 2 was just an expansion.
