>>13192260clearly you know nothing of fairies.
"Fairy" was a blanket term for any mythological creature. the original word for them was "Sidhe" pronounced "Shee"
the word Sidhe was also used IN the names of some of these creatures. such as the Bean sidhe (Banshee)
I don't know when or why the word fairy came to mean specifically "Little faggy winged people", and personally, I blame disney, because fuck Disney. (actually, that appearance better fits things like Sylphids), but the original description of a fairy is actually the same description of a grey alien. short, grey skin, large head, black eyes, takes people away in the dead of night, etc, etc...
but anyway, the traditional meaning of Fairy is really anything mythological. Unicorns are even in this category. so are dragons, Trolls (who's original description matches that of Big foot/Sasquatch), Mermaids, shit like that.
House elves from the Harry Potter series are even based on a type of Sidhe called a Brownie.
ANYHOO. Pokemon's interpretation of Fairies is more accurate than the image you posted, as it seems to incorporate a wide verity of creatures, and a lot of Pokemon are already based on Sidhe, such as Charmander (based on the Salamander)
