Feel like an idiot posted this in a thread I was previously viewing.

Anyway, just caught this little guy in my new sapphire version I got today from eBay. This is my first shiny encounter in like 12 years of playing pokemon.

I've been emulating FireRed while my Lite's replacement parts arrives. I've been breeding eevees in the hopes of hatching a shiny but no luck after about 150 eggs.

I had a black and white gameboy when I played Silver version. I ran into a Quagsire on Mt.Silver that had stars around it when the battle started. I ran away from it. Only after doing that I realized that it was a shiny Pokemon. I haven't seen one since.

Yes actually, you literally just use whatever like firmware they offer and call it a day. Nowadays though get the HC compatible ones. My old one can only use the older micro sd ones, which they don't sell too often. Also I managed to chain and get a shiny starly and shiny nidoran before I decided to stop. I also caught a shiny Mesprit once in Diamond.

So far in all my playthroughs, I've caught a shiny Mr. Mime in Diamond, a shiny Machop in Platinum, and, if it counts, the red Gyrados from the Lake of Rage.

Emerald.
My second shiny was a Jolly Marill, also in Emerald.
It had Huge Power, too.
Nincada evolves at Level 20, but don't evolve him then.
Evolve him at Level 25, and teach him Swords Dance.
Trust me on this.

I met my first shiny in Sapphire, one summer as a middle schooler. It was a Makuhita.

Next I ran into a brown Starly in my first playthrough of Diamond.

After that it wasn't until Black (I played Platinum for a LONG time, and then HG) that I found a shiny Roggenrola.

Lastly, I ran into a shiny Budew on a Nuzlocke challenge Diamond.

I still own the latter, but the former were lost in countless resets and trades from version.

I suppose I've been rather lucky.

Yep.
Grind him to Level 25, let him evolve.
When the evolution animation is done, it'll ask if you want to learn Swords Dance.
Say yes, replace a slot with Swords Dance.
Once that's done, check Ninjask and Shedinja.
They should have the exact same moveset.

Happened with me, but was a Raticate, in Silver version too. I was grinding for E4 at the first route we visit in Kanto, in GSC.

I got a Nidoran (F), in the same save that I ran away from Raticate and an Electrode, in an emulator, playing Emerald version.

My first shiny was actually also in a Sapphire, I found a Sandshrew in the desert. I never saw one again until I broke down and got a cheap DS and White/White 2 where I nabbed a shiny Bold Metang. IVs are meh but still, shiny fucking Metagross.

Somewhere laying around on one of my hard drives I have 3 different hacked games with legit shiny Pokemon on them. I've never encountered a shiny on any real life game over the 14 some years I've been playing Pokemon.

Somehow I managed to encounter 3 on hacked games in 1 year...
