Gen 1 is obviously the most memorable. Gen 2 had two returning characters + Karen (The first Dark member of ANYTHING in pokemon games) and Wallace. Gen 5 had an Elite Four of members specializing in the strongest types in the games - also a returning Frontier Brain.
