Are they actually good as far as stats and moves enough so to be worth it? Or do people like them because they're cute and because eevee is highly versatile in evolutions?

Not as bad as you might think, just really needs some set up. Here's what you do. You must breed for perfect Attack and Special Defense IVs. EV Train same stats. Adamant Nature. Give it a choice band. Send out Ninjask that has been bred and trained for speed, use protect, speed boost, baton pass into flareon. Flareon now at least usable.

I did say that it would only reach the level of being useable. It does at least have a few good moves for coverage, and on a sunny day team, it might even be better. Its attack is great, and you could easily have it spam Fire Fang like it's a god damn foot dive for Dr.Doom.

They might not be the greatest pokemon ever but they look cute and for most people they get the job done. I think Espeon holds out his own a little better than Umbreon though even if the latter is my favourite of the two.
