It's ridiculous how much people are listing HGSS for considering they're just recently last gen titles and sold well so they're not rare or anything. But $30 is still less than I paid for mine when I got it brand new from Target, so I guess that's something?

kanto and hoenn are post game though
I'd recommend picking up either cyndaquil or totodile, even though totodile is weak in the sprout tower.

Eventually Totodile. Looks badass, can learn actually useful offensive HM which is waterfall, later you'll be able to breed one with dragon dance. Also fucking usefulice fang or punch.

anyways, kanto and hoenn starters are post red and I don't think you want to be using starters in the battle tower. But, as you said feraligatr, venusaur and blaziken wouldn't be bad
