I don't get these jokes about the French running. Indeed, I don't know a shit about history. Although I didn't pay much attention at history lessons in schools, I do remember that I never heard even once that the French are cowards. I guess in Finland we just don't give a shit about France and therefore don't talk about it.

Yeah, I was quite sure that it was some kind of an inside joke of 'Muricans. For example, this is from Wikipedia:

Yes, thank you. That or the Gulf War. Lt. Surge being in the war is just part of his persona as the typical brash American soldier. since so much of Japan's experience with actual americans was soldiers for a long time, it's a archetype that's colored a lot of their depictions of Americans.
