I have a very simple question: What would the effect on the games be if the level cap were to be removed and pokemon could exceed level 100?

Competitive playing would suddenly be just about grinding since it would be the easiest way to win. We all know that there would be people who'd stay awake and grind for two weeks nonstop just to get one of their Pokemon to level 3000 and then sweep everyone with that Pokemon alone.

What if they had stat caps but no level cap?

Suddenly the only determining factors that decides if a pokemon is useable are its typing and movesets.

so they would make the cap something absurd like 200-300. the point is they wouldn't allow it to be something like any level free for all, they make that kind of thing "fair" in competitive play.

casual play would be a totally different story though, that would become a test of autism between friends.

I think it could work if things capped at 100. But, you know, if you've ported up that Swalot for three generations and you're proud that he's level 433, then that's cool. You know, like functionally nothing changes, it could be fun.
