Because there was no reason in having them in physical form when they exist on the store to be downloaded once and you're done. And you'd be surprised how many games fit on an 8GB SD card. Monster Hunters 3 and X/Y will be the biggest games on there, and I have the former on a cartridge because it was one of the games I got used for a good deal. Paying full price for a 3DS game should be a last resort.
Anyways the whole point of bringing up digital downloading the games was to let OP know that despite his bitching, he can still play X/Y when it comes out, unless he literally is busy from sunup to sundown and goes to bed before midnight.
