Also some people, not including me, don't have an original DS or DS Lite anymore, so they can't trade from the originals, although admittedly most of the Hoenn Pokemon show up in the aftergames of gens IV and V.
Although to be honest, you could get most Johto Pokemon in DPPt's aftergame or from Colosseum/XD or FireRed/Leafgreen, so HG/SS don't seem like they were created in regards to that.
As far as I'm concerned, they made them to "literally" just remake them.
And it's been longer since RS than it was from RG to FR/LG and from GS to HG/SS.
I think they're just putting it off until after X and Y; then people can enjoy Hoenn in 3D (I don't mean the AR 3D, I mean like the models instead of sprites) That's it pretty big leap from GBA anyway
