Pokemon isn't like, say, Final Fantasy. The games don't exist as standalone continuities. Each installment is an expansion/tune-up of the previous installment.
It's kinda like asking whether you should use version 2.1 or 3.1 of software, in a sense. Each generation is an improvement on a past one, so playing an older gen just leaves you stuck with a smaller bestiary and outmoded mechanics.
The only legitimate reasons to prefer an earlier game are the worlds themselves, because the layout is better or the story more compelling... But until Pokemon Black/White, Pokemon pretty much didn't even HAVE a fucking story in the first place, so you aren't missing much.
My recommendation is Black 2 / White 2. They're great games. If you're really committed to the narrative, Black / White, THEN Black 2 / White 2, though TBH I played B2/W2 and enjoyed it thoroughly and I STILL haven't ever played B/W.
My advice is to go as recent as possible. Seriously. The games are getting better with time. Whatever game you choose to play will become obsolete the minute X/Y drop anyway.
