I agree that it was bullshit to force the player to use the new pokemon on the first playthrough. I honestly found myself scratching my head during battles because I had no fucking idea what types most of them were.

I thought it was the greatest idea they had, it was refreshing. Add to that the design of the MCs, the music themes and the opening cinematic, and it felt really like a new start to me.
