I just prefer using artist's work over white background standard art. If there's no decent artwork then I just grab one of the card arts. I kinda liked that picture. Do you think it's really that wierd?

Yo! Spore guy here again. I've got a couple of questions for you all this time around.

First question is concerning the "spore" cards. I was wondering if I should incorporate some form of extra deck, as I've seen quite a bit of themes and archetypes use synchros or Xyz cards. If so, would anyone happen to have any suggestions as to what Pokemon to use(keep in mind, it has to at should at least seem probable that they could be used in conjunction with the "spore" counter strategy.) On the other hand, would an extra deck just be unecessary in the case of these cards?

I'm also considering making like, 1-2 more deck types(sorry, I can't help myself; my autism won't let me stop), and I was thinking of maybe basing one off of Dream World abilities(if no one has done so yet) and the other being a ghost deck of some sort. A few threads ago, I saw a few posts suggesting that Dream World Pokemon could be like the Toon archetype, and it seemed interesting to me. So, should I just make them like copy and paste Toon cards, or should I just scrap that thought and try to pull something new out of my ass? In regards to a possible ghost deck, does incorporating some form of banishing strategy sound good?

I'd really appreciate some input from people concerning these question. Thanks in advance!

Toons suck. Make them similar in oddity and aesthetics, but try to make them more viable. Obviously "Dream World" as a "Toon World" analog is necessary

And my simple stone idea. Puts the effects on the basic pokemon card and lets the stone be used for all of them, instead of having the stone list every single pokemon it can be used on.

I also thought about addign something like +200 atk for fire monsters" or something similar but it felt too strong and too tempting to stick onto non-stone-evos.

maybe try adding an effect to the stones like "if this card is destroyed by the effect of a spell/trap or monster card controlled by your opponent, return this card to your deck instead of sending it to the graveyard. Your deck is then shuffled."

Alright, here's what I'm thinking thus far:

- A set of like 6-8 basic/first stage, weaker Monsters that have effects that reflect their Dream world abilities, and upon activating said abilities, sending them to the graveyard to special summon another dream world card from the deck or hand or something.

- A set of like, 6 stronger, albeit not too strong, set of Monsters, with effects corresponding to their Dream World abilities

- a select few xyz/ synchro monsters withabilities that correspond to their Dream World abilities. These would be the most powerful cards in the deck and would be, naturally, slightly harder to summon. maybe I'll throw in a few weaker, easier to summon Xyz cards in there as well.

Also, for non-Xyz cards, I'm thinking of giving most of the mosnsters a little bonus ability when they're special summoned using a Dream world monster's effect(synchros get this effect automatically when special summonedin general).

How's all this sound? Yes? No?

Less LP cost, and make the monsters not get destroyed just because "Dream World" get's destroyed.

Like, they only get their effect if Dream world is on the field, but otherwise they just act like normal monsters.

Also, Dreamworld needs to be more searchable.

That's actually not too bad of an idea, but I think that those should be reversed since revive only gives the pokemon half of its health (so it's not a perfect revival) whereas with a revival herb, there's no crazy-huge cost to the revival.

That sounds good. Would it be accept to exclude the, if any, Xyz's from this, as Xyz cards get their effects by detaching? or is that not a good enough cost?

Maybe have a monster that can be discarded from the hand to the grave to add it to the hand? Make a card similar to Demise of Land? Perhaps pull a Forgotten Temple of the Deep and make a trap card that has it's name treated as Dream World when it's face-up, but with a different effect than the field spell?

Unless the rest of the theme is incredibly efficient or just plain overpowered, it's a pretty shitty boss monster. IIRC there are only three fusion monsters commonly played that could use 5 materials. One was ridiculously easy to summon and had 5000 ATK all the time, one could wipe all the machines off of the field if there was a Cyber Dragon out and get high ATK in the process, and the last could easily top 4000 ATK and attack multiple times. Hell, even Worm Zero is better in general.

This guy is just ridiculously sub-par in comparison.

The boss monster is Poliwrath. Their Polymerization lets them banish from the hand, field and Graveyard so it's pretty easy to mix them into a Sealord engine.

I was referring to Poliwrath. Just because the theme gets a themed polymerization doesn't make the monster worthwhile to summon. Though you are right about the Sealords; basically every Sealord that you posted is generic special summon and draw power tacked onto high-level monsters.

I think it's a bad idea to start off such a project with archetypes immediately.

You should look at oldschool Yugioh, most monsters were simple vanilla normal cards with no effects, we should take the similar route.

The Red/Blue starter decks should have 40~60 cards,
and most should monsters should be vanilla, not effect (look at Yugi/Kaiba starter decks).

Slowly we evolve it, add more effect monsters, more various traps and spells centered around a particular strategy or theme, and slowly add in archetypes.

Basically we need to follow the same path Konami did with Yu-Gi-Oh, we are still at 1999.

It's a bad idea to start right away with archetypes, it just makes the tcg feel empty. We need to make staples and fodder first.

There were archetypes in the original game, they just had verry little support since there weren't many cards yet. (examples: Labyrinth monsters, Harpies, Great Moths,etc.)

And the game was really shitty when it first started since they were still working out how rules should work. We had darkhole and harpies feather duster for god's sake... it was trash.
I agree that there could be more vanilla cards, but to say we need to go back to the beginning of yugioh is pants on face retarded.

the only reason to ever stray more than 3 cards away from the 40 card minimum is if you're running as stall deck(and even then you shouldn't run over 50). Extra cards is just wasted space between drawing your core strategy cards. If people were allowed to play with only 30 cards they would.

I thought this junk was designed to make the game faster or at least easier to pull off. Although it's hardly different from the metagame I knew where everyone had to plan their spells/traps/monster effects to center on either getting out a powerful monster as fast as possible or for everything to center on a single gimmick, where it's probably not about power, but putting your opponent in a bad situation so that you can freely smash them to bits. What I hated about the fandom is that EVERYONE is like Smogon. And I do mean EVERYONE. If you're not using the best monsters/spells/traps, then they will flipping destroy you.

the first time I ever went to a tournament I was running harpies (back when all there was were normal harpies, sisters, birdface, and dragon) the kid I had to face in my first match had 3 jinzo, 3 injection fairy lilly, 3 feather dusters.

Almost everything has been done before.

Special summon, draw, search through deck, flip destroy, change position, cure lp, damage lp, attack directly, unaffected by X, change control, tribute for X, etc.

You guys just gotta be more creative.

Topdecking and heart of the cards is what made YGO fun and intense.

okay so i have some problems.

the atk/def of each monster should be pretty neatly mapped as a function of their base stats.

for example, pokemon like mewtwo and rayquaza should be the only pokemon to have 3000 ATK or over. keep in mind that BEWD is the only normal monster without any effects to have ATK that high.

there should be an EVOLUTION effect that each pokemon has that should be on each card. not necessarily a wall of text - just evolution and then the name of the card and then someone can write down a rule for what it does.

pokemon effects should be limited to their signature moves or not at all. for example, if you are doing a dragonite, its ability could be that it deals its ATK in damage to whatever other monster, but then gets switched to defense position (hyper beam). or it could be that any creature that it attacks but DOES NOT destroy gets sent back to the owners hand (dragon tail). and again, not every monster needs an effect.

tm's/moves should be magic cards. for example, there could be a field magic card called stealth rock - deals 100xthe monster level damage to you each time your opponent summons a monster, but decreases the ATK/DEF of all opponents monsters by 100xtheir level as well.

there are basically no trap cards... though there should be. trap cards should be battle items like potions and berries. example, hyper potion: a monster with 2000 DEF or less has any damage reduced to zero this turn.

also, only really powerful pokemon should have broken effects. the psyduck card that's first in this thread is ridiculous. psyduck doesn't even NEED a card effect. but something like Regigigas could have a pretty awesome effect where its ATK and DEF are halved for 3 turns, can only be summoned when the other regis are on the field, but while it's on the field, you are allowed to use his monster card zones as well (his continent towing bullshit).

It's actually pretty bad. A level 10 synchro is hard to bring out, and now it's pretty much a 3000 atk beatstick and nothing more. Maybe give it an effect like Star Eater.

This effect sadly doesn't work. Monsters are only destroyed after the damage step, and at that point attacks can't be negated. I suggest you change the effect a little, and make it "If a WIND, EARTH or Dragon-type monster is targeted by an attack or card effect" so it's not outclassed by mirror force and swift scarecrow.
