Had one as a kid and named it after my dog, and transferred it to Silver when I could. My dog died and then a few years later my internal battery ran dry and I lost my Arcanine. I still catch a Growlithe and use it whenever I can though.

Starter in Bue, my first game, and has always been reliable. Started with him again in LG, sent over to Diamond and reset his EVs with berries. He then became the first pokemon I ever EV trained to level 100. He's still on my B2 cart and is my go to guy for in game challenges like PWT and Frontiers.

Always had a thing for Poison types. Although the type itself isn't great, some individuals that are poison have great potential, and Nidoking epitomises this. Gen V blessed him and made a pokemon that was a bro dince GSX even better. He is an absolute monster.

GOTTA GO FAST! I used to always have Raichu as my electric type in-game, but I discovered that Jolts was basically the same thing but better. One of the pokemon I used when I just got into the competitive scene, too.

A bit of a personal story. When Platinum came out, I was still in school and my brother was in university, but we kept in contact. One night we arranged to do a wifi trade. He asked how far I was in the game and I told him that I just beat Wake's gym. He sent me a Magmar with the Magmarizer, and voila, a Magmortar, level 30. Motherfucker tore through Sinnoh and the Frontier like a machine, and I hld a sentimental value to it.

In Gen 3, I got more battle savvy, as in stopped spamming Fire Blast and Hyper Beam. I was interested in Ninjask as a sort of support class, and often used it in battles with my friends to BP speed onto slow but powerful pokemon for a solid sweep.

I only came to recognise Azumarill's brilliance in B2. I got an Adamant Huge Power Azurill on the ranch, and Unova was left an empty husk of its former self.

It was my favorite when I was 7 years old playing Red Version. And still is a favorite today. I remember buying a fish from some dude in a Pokecenter. It didn't do anything but my older neighborhood friend told me that it evolves into a bad ass water serpent monster or something. So I took his word for it. Took his word for it, best decision ever. And then I saw Pokemon The First Movie. Dat Gyarados using (my favorite move when I was a kid) Hyper Beam. Way too fuckin cool man. Then Nintendo just pleases my Gyarados appreciation even more in gen 2 letting me capture a bossy red one at the Lake of Rage. I also love that I can teach him Flamethrower (fuck off Smogonfags, I don't battle competitively). Gyarados breathing flame just looks so boss.

While no other favorite measures up to my Gyarados, Nintales has also been there since my Red Version days. It's a mysterious pretty looking fox that controls fire, has mystical power in it's tails, and has moves like Confuse Ray that almost make it seem ghost or psychic-like. Just a cool Pokemon in general. Vulpix is also cute as shit. I remember the anime episode centered around Nintales being pretty cool/creepy when I was kid too. Probably added to my Ninetales appreciation.

I was so excited to train a Milotic the day I bought Sapphire Version. Little did I know how frustrating it would be to even FIND Feebas AND how frustrating it would be to make it evolve. But it was worth it. Milotic was like everything I loved about Gyarados and Nintetales rolled into one. Worthless shabby fish evolves into a glorious fabulous serpent with awesome power and a magical air to it. I also really liked the Pokemon contests in gen 3 and Milotic was my first Pokemon to take Master Rank.

Of all the intentional pairs created in gen 3 (Solrock/Lunatone, Plusle/Minun, Seviper/Zangoose), the eon duo is by far my favorite. I like their typing and design. Psychic dragons that are more like birds. Flying like jet planes with cool abilities like reflecting light to become invisible. I also quite like the animations for their signature moves and their wide elemental move pool. And Soul Dew...?? Turns these already strong mons into total beasts.

I've always hated the Marill line, and I caught one of them just to have a balanced team in Black2. But as soon as I started to use it, I noticed how strong he was and now I absolutely love him. He just kills everything at his path.

My starter in my most recent run of Emerald. I really like Treecko's line, and my Sceptile is incredibly fast and pretty damn strong. He's currently helping me to catch 'em all, and while I'm at it, I'm training him to level 100.

Honorable mentions: Latios (who destroys everything that crosses him), Feraligatr (freaking great in my Gold game), Deoxys (was amazed by it when I was a kid) and Smeargle (really cool concept and design).

Played Emerald for the first time a few months ago. Never played Gen 3 except FRLG. So I usually plan my team out so I cover weaknesses and whatnot. I saw Sableye and thought it was a nifty design, but thought nothing more. Seemed weak. Figured it was rare as well. So as I went into Granite Cave, I was shocked when I found one. Caught it, nicknamed it Macalania. Became such a bro. Gotta love Dark/Ghost, and learns Shadow Ball just in time for the Elite 4. Always thought Night Shade was useless, but helped me in a pinch many times. #1 favorite Pokemon.

Caught this gal, nicknamed her Jenova. Figured I'd never really used Bug Pokemon at all. Gave her a whirl and holy shit. Scolipede=God-tier design. Brought her all the way through the game, and can't play a run-through of White without her now.

Was always my favorite design growing up, but I never trained one. I recently played Crystal for the first time ever. Yeah, seriously. And I caught one at the Bug Contest and figured that he deserves a shot. Nicknamed him Seifer. And what a bro, lived up to the hype.

Always figured he was weak since he does not evolve, so never thought much of him. When I saw he was available somewhat early on in White 2, couldn't resist. Nicknamed him Spira. Quickly became a favorite, easily my favorite bird Pokemon by far. And now Steel is one of my favorite types thanks to Skarmory.

No explanation needed really. Awesome design, pretty unstoppable. Nicknamed him Macalania, same as my Sableye. For me, if it fits, it fits. I'm pretty picky with nicknames. But it was pretty damn cool to headbutt a tree and get a level 3 Heracross. Way better when you train Pokemon from baby levels, more bonding time, ya know?

Easily one of my favorite designs. Nicknamed him Paopu. Always use a Staryu whenever I can.

Close calls were Dodrio, Rapidash, Victreebel.

I used to play sapphire and emerald version with my little brother when I was a teen, and my starter was a Treecko. Back then were happy times, so I just associate Sceptile with the feeling, hanging out with my old best friend before the angst of growing up got to us and we drifted apart.

Is there something I'm missing with Azumarill? Huge Power doubles its attack stat, which is kind of shitty. Base 50 attack because base 100, which is still outclassed by a lot of other Pokemon, but there's a lot of praise for the little blue water bunny. Why?

from my soul silver game, this thing was a fucking tank. no matter what you did, it could take the hit. even if you had the typing advantage, it could take the hit. i trained my slowbro with moves like yawn, recover, psychic headbut and water pulse. we demolished everything.

i never caught a poliwag or whirl in red/blue. i never knew how, and by the time i figured out gen 3 was already released and i moved onto that. but for the time that i was in bliss on how to capture it, i adored it. i love the design, the typing, the evolution, and the idea of a tadpole turning into a frog for a pokemon. i eventually caught one in my later games, but i have not used him too much as he is underleveled compared to everyone else.

this reason is a bit different from the others. yes, i chose hitmonlee instead of chan in red/blue, but there is another reason. in my firered nuzlocke run, he was awesome. although not the strongest, the fastest, and the weakest (by health stats) i changed that. i gave him the best movepool i could and made him into an absolute warrior. even though he couldn't take more than 1 hit without fainting, i made sure that he wouldn't die. no matter what he fought, he could win. but one day... something went wrong. i forgot typing advantages and i lost him.

A lot of love for Flygon here, but I personally did 2 playthroughs in Emerald, both times Flygon was just a hindrance. To get that weak ass Trapinch and Vibrava to level 45 is a real pain in the ass. Plus, you don't get Earthquake til very late in the game, so Dig is his only decent Ground move. Not only that, 99.99999% of Pokemon in this game are Water, so he's got no helpful advantages in getting him to level forty frickin five.

Started a HG playthrough traded myself a Dratini and Houndour egg hatched them both then dropped my starter. They battled all the way through Johto
the elite four, kanto, red, Tower Tycoon, then i traded them over to my platinum save so they could beat the sinnoh elite four, sent them forward to unova so they could get a hat trick of elite four victories, win countless PWT's and destroy the white treehollow. Dragonite is the MVP out of all my pokemon and one of my favourite parts about him is in his description "Hates to lose" me too bro, me too.

Nidoking-My last pokemon left against the gary battle in SS Anne, he swept his whole team. Later, I stumbled upon a shiny Nidorino. Shiny nidoking is my bro.

Floatzel- Leveled him to 80 and beat the elite 4 with only him in platinum when I got fed up with how hard it was. Fuck you garchomp.

Heracross- My complete bro in Gold. Endure, Reversal on your ass. Headbutted so many trees for him until he finally popped out. We beat the elite 4 with him defeating all of lance's pokemon.

Espeon- My other bro in Gold. Him and Heracross worked together and killed everything. Them two and Feraligatr were my whole team, and lance got REKT. I was so surprised when eevee evolved into him while I was waiting to get a water stone. I decided to keep him instead of vaporeon. Awesome choice, great power.

Onix- As a kid playing Red, who didn't see a giant rock snake and think it was the best thing ever? I caught it, thinking it was a super rare legendary or something. Has been on every gen 1 team since.

I was initially disappointed with it, especially since I could not get him to kill anything no matter how hard I tried. Then I realized he never died. Then he got Moonlight, and REALLY never died.

When BW first came out, I read up on Volcarona, and loved everything about it. Design, stats, movepool, competitive viability. It was all so sick. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bug/Fire combination, and moreover the fact that it can still exist in OU despite a 4x weakness to Discrete Gravel just because of the raw power it packs in sun. Hell, the fact that it works in rain with a bulky Hurricane set makes it really interesting.

To be honest it's a tough pick between Croagunk and Toxicroak because I love both of their designs to death (poison dart frogs + muay thai fighters? pinch me i must be dreaming), but Croagunk's canon personality in the anime/games kind of sealed the deal for me. I love Poison types, I love rude and mischievous pokemon, and I prefer his moveset (albeit a bit shallow) over other Poison pokemon, mostly because of its typing I suppose. It started with Togepi hatching from the Odd Egg from my first Crystal playthrough. At that time I was too young to play competitively, all I knew was that the moveset was great and it was working. I also had no idea that Togepi had received a new evolution branch in Gen II, so when he evolved into Togetic I damn near shit myself. Maybe it's more sentimental than anything else, but Togetic was definitely my Gen II bro, I wish there was a way to have him back again.

Superb coverage from a hugely diverse movepool, really cool typing, decent defensive capability with resists to Fire, Water, Elec, & Grass combined with not paper-thin defenses, and a cool look to boot. I did my run of Black 2 with a team of my favorites a few months back, and while everyone else was easy to evolve due to access to stones and Audino grinding, Deino was left behind for quite a while. It wasn't even a Zweilous until I fought Marlon. But goddamn if there isn't something rewarding about having Hydreigon to nuke the Elite 4 with.

The thing I like about competitive Pokemon the most is the versatility of a given Pokemon; if it can perform multiple roles and adapt to the situation, and Swampert definitely fulfilled that balance, capable of going mixed offensively with Earthquake and Ice Beam, and acting as a pivot against both spectrums. I chose Mudkip in my first run of Sapphire when I was 10, and it was my first pokemon I ever managed to grind to 100.

This guy is an absolute monster. One of, if not the best, starter movepools out there. He's a huge threat in metagame and if you use him in-game, you can take out your rival's bayleef with just this guy, because of ice fang. Also, I found a shiny one of these in soulsilver.

I love jirachi. I love dunsparce. I love the ability serene grace. It pisses people off so much, and its so fun to use. Togekiss is a monster in game as well, and I was lucky enough to hatch a modest one in platinum. In that playthorugh i only used that, a torterra, and a porygon z. I swept EVERYONE. togekiss also was extremely neccesary, considering togetic is balls.

My favorite of the fungi pokemon, with a close second being parasect. this thing brings the thunder in OU. max speed spore, set up a sub, focus punch/ seed bomb your way out. or if you use technician, bullet seed, mach punch... whatever. i use toxic heal. I love using this thing in game, even though it is not the best in 3rd gen i still like it.

Initially I just loved the concept of a Water-type with no electric weaknesses, that wasn't as lame as Quagsire. Gradually I realized what a beast he is. Swampert/Flygon/Gardevoir carried me surprisingly far in Emerald's Battle Frontier.

Top six is hard though. I could pick another six that would be on equal footing with at least the bottom half of my top six.

Holy jubys what an awesome design. I love the shit out of this crazy motherfucker. I've always hated Porygon2 but loved POrygon itself and I love how Porygon-Z turned out. It's great in battle and Tri-Attack has become one of my favorite moves thanks to Pory's great ability pool.

Jeusus I got raped by Elesa's Emolgas so hard my first time through. I hated them for a long time. But on a subsequent playthough I caught one on a whim and never looked back. It's adorable, got an awesome typing, and is super fun to play with. I just find it an extremely enjoyable Pokemon. Even if it is just a Pikaclone, it's even better in my eyes. Plus flying squirrels are sick.

I honestly didn't like him for the longest time. My Uncle remarried, and his wife had two kids. They are autistic, and I'm being serious. They found out I used to play pokemon, so I became their mentor/guru. A childhood love of mine helped me talk to and understand kids who had a hard time with most people their age. It endeared them both to me over a short period of time, and gengar was their favorite. I put him on this list because he symbolizes what they mean to me.

The Bulbasaur line is hands down my favorite from just a design standpoint. Since apart from near-guaranteed critting Razor Leaf its offense wasn't spectacular, it forced me to experiment with status moves and Leech Seed which put me ahead of all my friends who just spammed attacks and put me on the road to competitive battling.

The first Pokémon I had that earned bro status just by kicking ass. I trained a Staryu up to some ridiculously high level like 79 and it was able to solo the elite four before I figured out how to evolve it. I didn't use it much in gen 2 but it wrecked the Battle Frontier in Emerald (also being my first IV bred and EV trained Pokémon) and was a monster in early gen 4 wi-fi battles and later on in many of my OU teams in Shoddy Battle.

Similar story to Dunsparce: I saw Wally catch Ralts and wanted one for myself because it looked cool. Found one after searching for a long-ass time and as soon as it got Confusion, it started wrecking shit. Once it evolved into Gardevoir, it immediately became the powerhouse of my team and I really liked its elegant design and the fact that it was like a bulkier Alakazam (another one of my favorites)

My starter in gen 4. Its design was reminiscent of Venusaur but still distinct enough to be unique so it just immediately appealed to me. No special story behind it.

Another Pokémon whose design just immediately clicked with me (made more remarkable by the fact that there were very few gen 5 designs I genuinely liked). I just caught it for its appearance, but I never expected it to be as useful as it was in-game. Total bro.

I only just recently started playing any of the new pokemon games. So naturally, first gen pokemon are the ones I like the most.

Ninetales: Some may say that this is a girly pokemon. But I honestly don't care, It has been my favorite since I started playing and it has never left my party.

Blastoise: Hands down the most badass starter pokemon. Blastoise is brutal and has gotten me through so many gym/elite 4 battles.

Charizard: 2nd best starter. Charizard's fire blast fucks people.

Dragonair: I prefer Dragonair to Dragonite simply because of appearances. I think that dragonair is just awesome looking.

Haunter: At first, I didn't really like this guy. But over time and while I was going through my gay ass scene phase Haunter grew on me and is now one of my favorite

Espeon: the only pokemon that is from a different generation. I loved eevee, and for reasons that aren't explained in my party of favorite pokemon. I really like psychic types. So when Espeon came around I tried so hard to get eevee to evolve into it. Worth it. Because espeon is just badass.

I thought this would be a better explanation but it's actually kinda boring. Sorry haha
