Not really. I always remember it as the ghostly Dark Pokemon as a counterpoint to the dark Ghost Pokemon in terms of legendaries.

Darkrai is the only Sinnoh legendary I like, even after the whole edgy thing.

If you can bring in Scarf Genesect with Bug Buzz/U-Turn, I'm sure you can deal with Darkrai. I'm not sure if it Bug Buzz KO's, but you'll scare out Darkai.

It's incredibly easy to counter. If your opponent has a Darkrai, immediately try to lead with your Scarf Pokemon or a Sleep Talk mon. I've heard that Sleep Talk Heracross wrecks Darkrai, but I've never actually used it.

Darkrai was the shit back in gen 4. Even got this cool lunchbox with his mug on it. Though, I use it mostly as storage for my art supplies. and before anyone calls me out as some kind of super nerd, lemme just say that BITCHES LOVE DARKRAI. Nerdy art chicks dig Pokemon, and they dig dudes not afraid to flaunt their "unique snowflake" geek sensibilities (in addition to being mildly attractive with somewhat okay game).

I think part of the problem was that gen IV gave us too many legionaries. It's not that they're bad pokemon on their own, but when you're suddenly legendary #47 in a game where most of the emphasis is on 2 or 3 (The time/space trio, the lake trio), then you're suddenly left out to dry.

The lake trio was good enough for pixie legendaries. Shaymin and Manaphy would've been better off as rare, one off Pokemon. Darkrai was cool, but Cresselia? I had to look up her name I could barely remember it.

I've read that in Japan, there's actually a difference between Legendary and Mythical Pokemon.

Over there, Shaymin/Phione/Manaphy/Mew/Celebi/Latitwins/Victini/Jirachi/etc. are considered Mythical Pokemon, which are Pokemon that are EXTREMELY rare and elusive, not Legendary.

Legendaries include box cover Pokemon (excluding FR/LG/R/B/G/Y covers) such as Reshiram/Zekrom/Arceus/etc.

Mythical/Illusionary Pokemon are all of the ones you need an event to get. The Eon Duo and Phione don't cut it.
They're still probably considered Legendary, though, just a sub-class of Legendary.

I think the difference between mythical and legendary pokemon, might be that, mythical pokemon are rare but there can be several of them (like in the Sky Warrior movie with Shaymin), while the legendary pokemon or one of a kind.

i think gen 1 did legendaries perfectly, gen 2 did it pretty well (mostly just tying in new legendaries with old ones), gen 3 did alright because the formula is good enough and the concepts were fine

then gen 4 hit and we got arceus
