Can anyone explain to me what the point of using Normal as a secondary type is?

It does nothing but give more weaknesses. Honestly, the only way that GF could justify this is by making all pokemon with a Normal secondary type have monstrous stats.

Normal types tend to have fuckhuge movepools man. Even Raticate can learn Ice Beam and Thunderbolt.

STAB Return and Extremespeed (and maybe Explosion, but I don't see this thing exploding unless it's evo is a manticore made of bombs), along with Ghost immunity and the trend that Normal Types usually get a lot of varied coverage moves could all work in Litleo's favor.

It's most likely normal so it's needed and won't wind up destroying everything in the beginning of the game. Masuda outright said he didn't want pokemon that were too strong in the beginning, it will most likely be worth the struggle if evolving it once it evolves and she's that normal type.

u wot? Being part normal type probably makes it better early in the game. You get STAB for all those generic early normal type moves like tackle while other Pokemon don't. And it's not like there are usually many fighting types at the beginning of the game.

I really don't know why game freak would back pedal by not taking the opportunity to make it a manticore. We have a normal lion in Luxray, and we have foo dogs in Arcanine and Entei. To make another one of either of those two is ridiculous, just give us the damn manticore!

- Weakness to Fighting (pretty huge)

Hugely depends on how the Pokemon is carried out. A weakness to fighting will always be big, and an immunity to ghost only does a little, but if it has a shitty enough movepool that it needs to use Return, or if it gets ExtremeSpeed, a normal typing can easily go to it's favour.

I don't think Normal dual-types should exist at all.

Think about it. A Pokémon is classified as "normal" when it doesn't fit to any of the other 17 elemental classifications. Normal is essentially "unclassified" or "non-elemental". It's hard to be "Normal" AND something else, because by definition it's no longer normal if it possesses traits of an elemental type.

I've considered it, but I think if they do this it would be a complete waste of two potentially awesome designs. It's a good typing early game to give STAB to its early attacks, but for it to evolve and keep those types or god forbid not even evolve would be just a complete waste.

I'm not sure if Litleo will necessarily be a manticore or just a bigger lion, as long as it gets a good typing and movepool. I think a manticore would be pretty cool though.
