Former Geewunner here. Yeah,I was your typical "gen wun was da best cuz muh nostalgia" fag.I'm also a massive Charizard faggot who has a couple in every game including shinies I flaunt like a douche. Like others, I got off the bandwagon back when Ruby sapphire came out. I thought the lack of Gen II-III compatibility was bullshit. I jumped back on for FireRed/Leaf Green, and have been on ever since. I did play Emerald years ago, but I just sleepwalked through it. Never did the sidequests, just ignored it to keep playing FR.
Fast forward to last month, where I'm jonesing for some new pokemon action. My nephew gave me his old, ghetto looking Sapphire cart with the nasty peeled off sticker. I'm so hooked. After playing gen 1 over and over and going through Kanto multiple times, I got sick of it and it's pokémon. Ironically, the reason I hated it as a kid is why I find it so refreshing now.
The environments are so much fun to go through. The game LOOKS great after 10 years. The storyline is woven in well enough to not feel overbearing. The variety of Pokémon is just fantastic. Your choices feel a lot more open than most games. You have at least 3 or more choices for any given types, it seems. It's not like Sinnoh and it's TWO firetypes in the main game or as sparse as Gen I or as repetitive as Gen II. It's just such a great game.
I JUST beat the elite four again, and am planning to do a new run tomorrow. I'm gonna box my starter, I'm thinking of going with a team of Gardevoir, Dusclops,Volbeat, Skarmory, Ludiculo, and Torkoal. I just hope I don't get raped by steven.
