The reason they have them is because those three types are easy to use and have pretty basic weaknesses and shit. Plus they're decent coverage.

That reverse triangle doesn't work. Dark is immune to psychic, which upsets the balance between them; it cannot work like grass/water/fire in reverse at all. Also:

They will never change it. Also keep in mind that there is always that one annoying rival with starter that is opposite type of your's and opposite sex annoying weaker to your starter.
