I'm sure this will either get hate, praise or both, but what do you do with your starters? I don't use them. I use them to get past the first gym or so then replace them. In every game I replace them with something better.

I always keep my starter, in fact I shun legendaries for them.

Example, raise Typhlosion to level whatever, catch Ho-Oh. The fire bird remains in the PC box where it belongs, Typhlosion remains bro status.

I use them. The only game I didn't use them is White 2 because I'd already used them in BW and Black 2. I just chose Snivy and boxed it for a Rhyhorn I bred in my other game.

I switch them out as soon as I catch another pokemon and play with that one as my starter. Just finished a run of Pearl with a Bro-tier Starly.

I use them on the first run of every pokemon game, then on other runs I either keep em or ditch em depending if they're worthy.

I always use my starters when it's my first time playing the game. They're an easy fire/grass/water type with stage 2 evolutions. They're not the best thing in the world but they get the job done and they usually look iconic.

An I the only one that doesn't think the Gen V starters suck? I did a playthrough with all 3 (separately) and I had a lot of fun using all 3. Especially Emboar which reached maximum bro tier status.

I usually keep them depending on how well it goes. When I started Crystal, I chose Chikorita and had little to no problems. However, when I chose one for SoulSilver, it didn't go so well so I got rid of it in exchange for Budew. Same goes for Serperior when I started White 2; traded it for a Shelmet.

I somehow even managed to survive using Serperior on my initial White run. Emboar was pretty awesome in Black 2, learned all kinds of types of moves and had Flame Charge to fix its speed if you wanted.

I like to play the game as a story, so my starter is my characters first pokemon, they'd have an attachment to it even if it could be replaced with something 'better'.
So every game I keep it with me until the end. Unless I'm nuzlocking.

Any starter is usable in-game. Emboar and Serperior are just basically outclassed by in-game Pokemon anyway. You can easily sub in Pokemon for the first two, Gen IV and III have very unique starters with excellent niches for the game so it's not as easy.

Emboar was fun enough to use, good coverage.

Its always been odd for me, in gen 1, I enjoyed using them, gen 2 I only kept cyndaquil if I picked him, gens 3 - 4 I liked all of them and gen 5 I replaced them with anything as soon as possible besides tepig, it's funny that tepig was my least favorite at the start too

I always used mine for the entire game until B/W. Serperior just wasn't good. There were far better options from about mid-game on, so I reluctantly boxed it. In B/W2 I used Samurott, which happily was enough to keep in my lineup until the end.

Charizard was my dragon-king in gen 1 (I remember taking out Lance's Dragonite with Charizard to show who the better fucking dragon was).
Totodile was a cool little dude who evolved into a tower of hurt
I didn't like Gen III's starters, but I kept Mudkip all the way through the game... as an HM slave. I leveled him too, but I didn't like him
Gen IV was cool. I liked all the starters though I never used Torterra as much as I should have.
Gen V... I was sorely tempted to box and forget, but as my first pokemon in the game, they 'deserved' to be in my Elite 4 team. I liked Serperior's look, but hated his stats, and Emboar's moveset left me cold

I'm hoping GEN VI's starters are as awesome as they look

I use starters on my first playthrough of a new game. The only time I would use starters after that first playthrough is if they were Bulbasaur,Charmander, Squirtle, Totadile, or Chimchar. Everything else is trash. I did once however switch out my starter for a eevee and made it so it wouldnt evolve so It could fight Red in Soul Silver pretty epic fight it was.
