I like gen1 partly due to nostalgia but I genuinely perceive the designs as better in my opinion. Also I liked kanto and all that. Obviously the gen1 games' mechanics are shit compared to newer ones but what do you expect? It was made over 10 years ago before the new ones, they couldn't get it perfect first time. I just think if you put gen1 with all the new graphics and mechanics as they are now the core game would be my favourite. But hey, it's all opinions.
