My thoughts on this-
Like everyone else I was completely raging. I woke up at like 8, saw nothing, went back to bed. Then I woke up a few hours later, checked /vp/ and saw the shit storm. I didn't understand the point. I thought calling them Mega Evolutions and puting Mega infront of their names was what really ruined it for me. Then I went and ate, now I feel a little better about it.
It appears as if these aren't new pokemon, but stronger forms of old pokemon. This is okay, and it means that it will say "Blaziken" in the name box and not "MegaBlaziken". That seems to just be the name of its form. I'm disappointed that they aren't actually designing new pokemon to be their evolutions, but in another way this means that there won't be scores of evolutions of old pokemon in the pokedex, that except for Sylveon it will be entirely new. There could be so many others to get new forms, and I'm sorta excited for it. And I never played/watched Digimon, so I know little about it and I don't really care about the similarities as long as Gamefreak doesn't go over the top. This is pretty close to the top, though.
And about this being the scoop of the century, well, now everything makes sense, doesn't it? This is way bigger than a new type. I think it makes a lot of sense that they waited so long to tell us, as this will put off a lot of people. They wanted to reveal some of the less groundbreaking stuff first to get us hooked in, then tell us about these Mega Evolutions. Could you imagine if they told us about this in April? Everyone would have stopped paying attention. And the amount of butthurt on here probably outclasses Wottergate.
