Through 5 gens, Pokemon has been something I loved.
As a little kid it was the cards and the tv show, then I got into the video games. I love Pokemon and still do. I learned how to read by having my mom read me the original Pokemon handbook (that green one you probably had it too) every day. I love every single generation. Some more than others.
Gen 4 was easily the best for me. It added awesome new evolutions of former Pokemon, it made the best remake of any game ever (HG/SS) and its main games D/P/Pt were super awesome too. Gen 4 added and improved upon other Gens, without changing them too much. I grew up on Charmander Squirtle and Bulbasaur. Now all of a sudden Blastoise, This beast turtle with cannons on its back that I have known and loved forever, has a new form, and new evolution.
The Pokemon of 15 years ago is different than today's Pokemon, so today's Pokemon shouldn't go back and change things about old Pokemon by giving them an extra form.
Also, I think this mega Pokemon thing was really just the last straw for me. Personally, there have been a lot of Pokemon that I haven't really like the designs. I don't like fairy type (dont mind adding a new type, just don't like how they called it fairy. It actually is like calling it bug type, its base'd of a human concept that does not exist in pokemon, and I don't like it. I don't like the name bug type, but there are really no good alternatives unless all bug types would just be in other classifications.
