They probably didn't want to give Combusken a branch evo because of the imminent Hoenn remake.

So they've fucked it all up and done this instead.
And Ampharos looks fucking retarded.

Could have done that with new evolutions and Lucario, Blaziken and Mewtwo are far from unusable.

New evos are fine when they're done well, hell even branch evos would have been okay.
The whole idea of Pokemon is that Pokemon evolve and don't de-evolve because no creature on earth does that.
They've taken one of the things that brought so many initial fans to the franchise and ruined it with this shit.

None of this needed to happen and Gamefreak are definitely going to regret doing this.

That's not what I said at all, it can do that obviously, it's doing it right now.
What I mean is that Pokemon always handled evolution in a somewhat mature fashion in that pokemon that evolve can't de-evolve.
Yes there are Pokemon that have formes but these were mostly regulated to mythical and legendary Pokemon. Pokemon that were in a lot of ways cut off from the rest of the world.

GF have thrown that out though and are now parading around this awful new formelution idea.

Yes but that's the point. Before it was only legendaries who went through this and it made sense because they're legendary and all that shit but your average Pokemon going through this doesn't make sense at all.
In fact the more I talk about it the more it sounds like Colress actually had something to do with it and that when they do megaevolve they are actually going through a process that cost the Kalos government billions of pokemoney in research funding.

I'm sorry dude but that is by far the stupidest thing I've ever read in my life.
When Pokemon talks about evolution it doesn't require any type of energy it just happens to either grow stronger to compete for food or adapt to their environment (Eevee is an obvious example).
Evolution in Pokemon doesn't require some kind of energy source, it requires that a small list of certain specifications are met.

Somewhat true, usually it works out that when you're at the top of the food chain and you waste very little energy catching and eating your food that you grow stronger and conserve your energy. But nothing de-evolves because of it and in almost every case nothing really becomes weaker because they're not wasting all their energy looking for food.

See that kind of makes sense but at the same time unless Absol just likes to take off his wings, cut his hair and laze about on his days off he can do everything he usually does but better.
Same goes with Mawile, unless Mawile is now a seductress when de-evolved.

But like I've said before the form thing worked for legendaries because they are somewhat cut off from the rest of the Pokemon world and are mythical and all powerful and all that shit.

This isn't what megaevos are, it's not evolving and then devolving because who the fuck needs protection from shit? It's changing because the environment requires it or just changing because you're a fucking electric ghost and you can use this washing machine to wreck stuff.
I imagine in Pokemon canon, Rotom jumps between the appliances for different situations as well.

Pokemon is based very finely around Darwin's theory that the fittest (strongest, most adapted to their environment) survive and pass on their genes to the next generation.
This megalution thing goes back on that entirely. Why would pokemon become weaker for no reason what so ever?
Why would anything do that? Besides Digimon who threw the word Digivolve around for two series without any real meaning to it.
That's exactly what this is though, this is Pokemon's Digivolve and you really shouldn't be defending it.

Don't get me wrong though, I like the new designs. They could have all been branch or regular evolutions though. There was never a need for megaevo and guarantee GF have done it for shock value.

We've been over this, even if it isn't an evolution and just a new form thing. It doesn't make sense for a Pokemon to resort back to being weak in the wild.

Formes make sense in legendary Pokemon shit and in things like Castform and Rotom (Darmanitan is just a cute mythology thing) but they don't make sense in the actual world of Pokemon. Unless, as stated before, this is a totally man made thing in the cannon.

I was always pleased with how Pokemon handled evolving and how Pokemon adapted to their environment through it. Changing into something weaker though makes no sense and I hope GF have a good explanation for it or they may lose a lot of potential buyers.
I mean they hopefully won't but still.

Yet none of their abilities change and besides Rotom, they don't go stronger. Rotom is an entirely different scenario though where it posses shit instead of actually physically changing into something on its own.
These new Pokemon are evolving simple as that, playing it off as a form is just your way of shrugging off how GF is doing the stupidest shit conceivable.

Says who? As far as i'm aware Mega Lucario is not Rionubis. It's a greatly powered up Lucario.

Possibly because they didn't want to give a branch evo to a starter and they knew Lucario would be overpowered if they gave it an evo.
So instead hey give them evos that can't hold life orbs or choice items.

The weird thing is the only Pokemon that actually benefits from this is Ampharos.
