What would be the BIGGEST "Holy shit" moment that could happen in the Pokemon anime today?

His dad was mentioned a total of one time, in the second episode "Pokémon Emergency!". Ash calls his mother from the Viridian City Pokémon Center and she remarks something to the effect of "Oh, your father would be so proud of you, you're the apple of his eye!".

After that, he's never mentioned again. Since that occurred 16 years ago, he most likely never will be.

They finally ditch Ash as a protagonist, he wins the 6th Gen league, goes home, hooks up with Misty & becomes a member of the elite 4.

They really just need to ditch Ash but it will never happen

Yes but guess what would happen?
They would come up with an even worse original character, one with a ridiculous over-the-top design like fucking Yu-Gi-Oh, an ugly shoulder pet like Pikachu and he'll act the exact same.

I WANT them to start over and use trainer Red (hell, even include all the new pokemon in the first season if they want) but that will never happen.

What if his Pokemon Master father shows up & invites him to go training & journeying indefinitely, Ash accepts & we get a flash into the future of old man Ash and old nanny Misty watching TV as a red-headed kid who is obviously their son is battling in the league.
