Hi, /vp/
I haven't been following the metagame since Gen IV, and I want to get back into it.
How do I go on about doing that? What are the major threats nowadays? Are leads even a factor (because of team preview)? Is the metagame still geared towards offense?

Don't bother, and I say this as a card-carrying Smogonfag. The metagame is shit and has been for the entirety of gen 5. Remember around HGSS when Head Smash Aggron came out, and everyone was enthralled because it could 1HKO frail neutral mons and 2HKO certain resists? Now EVERYTHING hits at least that hard. You don't need to worry about major threats because you can just throw together a team of six strong OU sweepers and do brilliantly. Wait until gen 6, and if that turns out to be just as bad then I expect the gen 4 metagame will further rise in popularity in the competitive singles scene.

Stay out of OU if you are looking to have fun. It's all filled with weather teams because of Politoed and Ninetales' DW abilities. You should be fine in lower tiers. Watch lots of competitive battles on YouTube. I suggest E-Lo (Kwandaoren66) and BlameTruth. Entry hazards are still broken as fuck, btw. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. I'm a major student of the metagame and am not planning on sleeping any time soon.

Low tiers are fun, but weather doesn't drain the fun out of OU if you ask me, it's very common but I don't see it as detracting from it at all.

Also OP should check out pokemon showdown if you want to easily get into metagame, you can experience it very quickly.

Scizor, Dnite, Latios, Garchomp, Breloom, Keldeo, Volcarona, Terrakion, etc.

Leads are usually politoed or something that can setup on politoed.

Gen 4 is a stallfest compared to gen 5.

My advice would be to play UU if gen 4 was your last meta experience. I don't think there's any weather in UU and it feels very much like gen 4 OU with Empoleon, Ambipom, Snorlax and Heracross.

At least mention Swampert, Azelf, Bronzong, Flygon, Kingdra, Machamp, Roserade, Weavile, Zapdos or any other that were OU last gen.
