I just can't, for the life of me, get into the mega Pokemon. I just find them incredibly lame and gimmicky. I'm trying, but I can't bring myself to really accept or care about them. Everything else about XY is great but these...i don't know. Anyone else feel this way?

I'm far from a genwunner, trust me. I love all the gens, and everything I've seen so far in gen 6. I just really really dislike these forms. I just don't get why they couldn't of given Absol and Mawile regular evolutions

You don't have to be into them.
They are, in a sense a gimmick, but still, they are just part of the story in some way.
I am sure that they are like legendaries: stronger than usual pokemon, but not necessary to use.

Who knows, maybe when you see them in action, you might like them =]
