If the legends have any connection, it's that the DNA thing in the Mega Stones are blue and red. The significance is readily apparent. Xerneas is life and Yveltal is death. Both need to exist.

What if the connection between them is that it's the fact that death and destruction are the forces that push life to evolve in order to become strong and better deal with it.

What if the third legendary represents undeath and stagnation, essentially what happens when the balance is broken. those trapped cannot die, but can not improve their current state.

I see what you think, buuuut, what about this:
The game seems to be having an emphasis on fantasy. What if the third legendary represents "immortality" and neutrality. Usually, we have good and evil, law and chaos, etc. What if the 3rd legendary represents neutrality, and choice?

I like this theory but I feel like there could be much more. Hear me out on this one.

What if, say, Colress or someone like that finally found the secret to unlocking a Pokemon's potential and it lies in the DNA/essence/whatever of legendary Pokemon. Say he made these stones containing that essence to merge that with certain Pokemon? It's an incomplete headcanon. Any comments/questions?

I mean, some of these megas have a resemblance to other legends.

Ampharos gets a glorious white mane and gains Dragon typing. I'm guessing Reshiram's "essence", never mind the fact it's typed like Zekrom.

Lucario gets those weird things coming off his head. They look too much like Giratina-O's wings to not notice.

It's far from perfect but it has a little evidence. Anyone else see any?

Damn, I like this better than Colress making the stones.

I would assume there may be some old legend about them picking said champions and giving them a stone imbued with their essences to bring the power out in said champions. Maybe those champions are the ancestors of the species that the Mega-Evos happen to. Still spitballing but I like where this is going.

I think you are absolutely right about this.
Also do you rember we first saw Xerneas? The shot started with it's eye and we could see a DNA-strand in there. The same DNA-strand could be seen during the Mega-evolutions. So this proofs that the legendaries must be connected to the mega-evolutions!

Since we know that Mega pokemon can only hold their Mega Stones, what if they get a special effect depending on whether they came from Xerneas or Yveltal?
